This was never about home field. It was never about steal one in Houston and sweep the other 3.

Well...if you put it that way...they're still on track...

But yes...

Ideally, there is still, as of now, a Greinke and BP game, which should be totally winnable.

Which then leaves a Verlander and Cole game, of which they need to win one. And in both previous JV/Cole games, it hasn't looked totally unrealistic they could win one.

I'm more worried about the bullpen game than Grienke tbh.

The Astros bullpen vs our lineup has been a fly running into a truck so far.

If we get rained out, and go Tanaka/Paxton, we will probably go back to back pen days in games six and 7, and I know Severino would start one of them, but lets be honest, it will be on the shortest leash, so it will be like back to back pen days.

Yeah, pen days against Verlander and Cole on the road sounds like the Boone thing to do.
 
The difficulty with the Astros is you need to attack them from the start of the pitch count.

Tanaka did this masterfully, coupled with showing up with his prime stuff, and delivered.
IMO, Paxton had some clear nerves, and looked hesitant to attack the Astros hitters - a la continually pitching outside. Once he started to figure it out (and he generally takes an inning to settle in), it was too late and the tenor of the game had been taken from him. I think he'll be juiced to pitch better his next outing and we won't see the hesitation. He'll go 5 at least. (fingers crossed)
And then with Severino we saw the problem with attacking the Astros is they also have the ability to make you pay.

Green is having a series because he's coming out and attacking the Astros batters. Ottovino is trying to do too much. Just go out there and trust your stuff. Stop thinking.

Whenever this team gets down in important games they all try to become heroes. Everyone just swings for the fences.

And yes, another vote here for moving on from Gary. Sooo sick of watching his pathetic strike outs when we need clutch hits.

People always say "well the 2009 Yankees won with power" but there's no comparison.

Nick Swisher was by far the worst contact hitter on that team and, at .248, he was Rod Carew compared to some of the guys on this team. Every damn body else on the team hit .270 or better, even some of the guys off the bench. Not to mention he got on base at a .371 clip.

Speaking on OBP, Melky Cabrera's .336 was the worst on the 2009 squad. That's better than FIVE of the guys who were in the lineup tonight...by a lot. Headlined, of course, by Scary Gary's .316 :help:

That's the difference between a good power team and the trash we're putting out now.

You know what 2009 didn't have? An overbearing rotation that everyone keeps harping on. It's the offense that let's us down every time.
