haven't seen the mets fail to cash in on chances late in the game often lately...that was one of them.

also i bet that if the nats challenged that hit by pitch and brought alonso back to the plate he hits a 2 run homer which is probably why they didn't challenge just look at it like an IBB

Good point. Gary Cohen on SNY could not believe they didn't challenge, but now that you mentioned it I would have let him go to first too.

Anything will be better than Altherr at this point. If any halfway competent OF gets DFAd, they should replace him. Dude cannot hit at all

I might be a believer in Diaz rebounding eventually but god do I hate seeing him take the mound.

Dude needs an offseason like no one else.

Won’t know anything with him til next April. It’s possible its the baseball and it’s also possible it was the overusage by Seattle last year. If it’s either of those he will rebound in 2020. If it’s not he will end up DFA’d or traded by 6/1

Too early to say, but he might be one that can't handle New York.

This guy was legit lights out with Seattle. Not sure what has happened to him this season.

deGrom pitching well but getting a no decision/Mets losing, defensive mistakes and a Diaz home run allowed. Sounds like the first half Mets.

That error was pretty much on deGrom. He hesitated running for a second and it cost him. It wasn’t the best throw but it was very catchable

Losing never is kool but if there was any team that deserves a mulligan it's the Mets. I mean it was bound to happen.

Been so much winning around here lately with the team coming back from the dead and providing so much enjoyment, I can't even muster up the energy to be ticked off about a loss or even about Diaz. Tho they had a shot at the sweep, they did what they needed to do, won 2 of 3 and so we move on to the Braves having proven that all these wins vs the dregs of the NL wasn't a fluke. So I be one happy ass camper and what occurred today and nothing even a shitty loss can put a damper on this feeling that we got something special going on.

Now that said, I am under no illusion that this is smooth sailing the rest of the way. All we've done with this ridiculous streak of ours is to wipe away the first 3 months of bad baseball. All we've done, and let's be honest, is simply get back on the same level as these 4 other teams that are battling it out for these 2 WC spots....that's it!. There will be adversity along the way these final 44 games....count on it. We are the Mets after all and nothing ever comes easy for us....lol

We have quite the daunting schedule and so hopefully some of y'all are not going to go out of your minds if and when these loses start to accumulate. Even if and when we get to that 85-86 win total that it's likely going to take to get a WC spot, that means we are going to lose another 19-20 games rest of the way. So be prepared boys....we are going to be doing a pretty decent amount of losing next few weeks.

But so is our opposition and the fact we have quite a bit better pitching than any of them and the fact we have some very clutch hitters gives me the confidence going forward that while we'll be losing some ball games, we'll also be winning more than they will. Pitching is so important this time of year and we got oodles of it.

Truth be told, I'd actually be surprised if we didn't get one of the 2 WC spots....going to be a fun ride these next 6-8 weeks....

Defense needs to be better for them to continue to have a chance at postseason play. They have enough bats, but they have some issues holding runners and then there are the unearned runs because of brain farts.

Theyre talking about Atlanta and a few players they are missing. Need I remind them that we have been without Nimmo for approx. 80 games, a key contributor in Dom Smith and now Cano, albeit he has been horrific but still an ever present threat.

We ever get at least 2 of those 3 back......we should be even deeper for the stretch run.

Cano is no threat what so ever.

Good call. A team similar to the Mets. You know, up and coming. Believing in themselves and striving for somewhat uncharted territory. I like the Reds, more specifically their fans. Great fans, at one time they had quite the team year in and year out. Their fans deserve a little success, much like we do. The only thing I don't like is that lasting memory of Tom Seaver in a Reds uni, and him pitching a no-hitter there. Ex-Mets pitchers have a propensity of doing such. Cone and Gooden anyone? Am i missing someone else?
Nolan Ryan through a couple. Mike Scott also.

There are also a few guys who threw no hitters before coming to the Mets and after leaving. The Mets still don’t technically have a legit no hitter as Beltran’s ball in 2012 was fair in reality. The other strange thing about the Mets and no hitters is that the Padres are the only ML team to never have one yet they’ve thrown 3 one hitters against the Mets in the last 25 years alone. Two times their pitcher took a no hitter into the 8th against the Mets. One had one with 2 out in the 8th in 2014 and the Mets ended up winning the game

Alonso needs to recognized his fielding limits. They should take him aside and remind him he doesn't have old man Cano at 2B anymore and have a little faith in Panik to get to some of these balls.

But that was a bad throw to deGrom yesterday. Alonso kind of rushed it. He had time.

deGrom also should have just caught the ball.

alonso has been way better defensively than expected. errors happen

It’s really odd how good Alonso and Conforto have been compared to what all the scouts said and how bad Rosario has been defensively

He needs awareness. He shouldn't be diving for balls that are hit right at the second baseman in a shift.

It's an experience kind of a thing but I agree. He'll get there eventually. Not sure how much shifting goes on in the minors but it's something for him to work on.

Good news, he's young and should become better at this over time
