Orioles set the AL record for HR allowed in 2017 (with Chicago) at 242.

Through 8 innings today they are at 245 HR allowed on the season.

The all time record is the 2016 Reds at 258.

Blake Swihart was just DFAd by the Diamondbacks. Mets were tied to him for a while last season and in years past. You wonder if he's someone they will consider. He's better than Altherr and he can catch.

Acuna Matata Watch:
7-12 20 for a 40-40/100 line, played 36 games at the clean up spot but has primarily been used in every other game (except for a day of rest and came in for a pinch hit) out of the lead off spot.

mrw the team play the Orioles twice in a day.

This may sound odd but so long as the Mets don't get swept, it will be a successful series vs the Braves. Hear me out...sure I'd love to win 2 of 3. Heck, I'd love it even more if we swept them but just dealing with reality here but it won't be an issue at all if we just won one of them in my view.

Braves are a heck of a team and one of the top 4-5 teams in all of baseball and tho we are on a unreal roll, IMO, taking 2 of 3 at their place from them would be beyond huge and just something I don't think we will do.

Taking one game tho would do the trick tho seeing we likely wouldn't lose much if any ground compared to our opposition for one of the two WC spots as those teams will likely not be pulling off any sweeps either.

After the Braves series, we play the Royals and yeah, than we can think realistically 2 of 3 if not all 3 in a sweep is realistic.

Bottom line and I'm looking at the big picture peeps and I've said this a bunch of times and I'll say it again, so long as we tread water and play around .500 ball the next month or so while we play much stiffer competition than we have the past 3 weeks or so, the Mets as we will have hit mid September by than with around 14-15 games left, should be right there firmly in the mix primed and ready to make that final push for a WC spot.

Considering where we were just 3 weeks ago which was dead and buried and the season pretty much over, any Met fan couldn't ask for much more than that...

Very odd. 8 games back with 40-odd to play, you can't afford to drop a series against the team you are chasing. If Braves sweep they'll win the division.

Mets have 44 games to play and their main concern should be secure the WC hence my comment that so long as Mets DON'T get swept to the Braves, they'll not lose any ground most likely to their main competition for the WC spot as IMO their more realistic avenue of making the post season is the WC route...ya follow?

All I'm saying is that 10-20 years ago whenever before the WC route was implemented, I never would have said that just taking one of the three games vs the division leader that they play would be fine but this is a different world now as with us 8 games behind Braves sure it would be great for us to catch them but the reality is, they have a much better chance of making the post season as one of the two WC's than they are catching the Braves.

I'm just dealing in reality here. Met are not going to be playing .900 ball going forward...it's impossible. So long as they play .500 or so in the next 30 or so game during this very difficult schedule they have, they'll be in prime position to go into the final 2 weeks of the season when the schedule eases up to make a big time push to get one of the WC spots.

Obviously I'd love for them to win sweep the Braves beginning tomorrow and I'd love for them to win the division which would coincide with the Braves having a colossal collapse of epic proportions but I just don't see that happening as Atlanta is too good IMO and have too much of a head start on the Mets. I hope I'd be proven wrong but I doubt I will. So Mets should be concentrating and focused on winning as many games as they can and if they finish around .500 as I said during this difficult schedule they got coming up, they'll be in excellent position to do what needs to be done to secure a WC spot....capiche?

Capiche.

One game wildcard is a f***ing joke. Need to make it at least best of 3.

I agree...a 3 game series for the WC teams would be more fair but unfortunately that's not the reality.

Bottom line Dark is that the Mets only 3 weeks ago were left for dead by most of us including their most loyal fans such as yours truly as nothing in their performance at the time and the situation they were in indicated that an almost historic run for this franchise was in the cards and about to happen.

Well as we all know it did amazingly and so Mets erased 3 months of inconsistent and pretty bad baseball and have gotten themselves back to a place where we are for the most part starting from scratch. It's as if we got a "do over" from the baseball gods and now we need to take advantage of it.

We are about to see what we are made of and IMO and as I said, if we are going to be realistic about this, if we can play around .500 ball for the next month during this very tough schedule, I like our chances that our superior pitching especially combined with our bats that are very clutch at opportune moments, will figure out a way to get to the WC game.

And if we do somehow make it to the divisional round and yes it's still a big if, I'm positive the vaunted Dodgers who would be heavy heavy favorites over us, would not be thrilled about having to deal with a deGrom,Syndagaard and Stomen trio....just saying...:)
