OT: MLB Thread Part XXVIII: Vote Starlin Castro for the ASG

Also, I'd like to credit Ryan Ruocco, who is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Obviously very young in his voice and age, but harkens back to old-time broadcasters in that he's 90% about the actual play on the field, and not some interpersonal crap with the rest of the broadcast team.

A PBP person is so crucial. The quality of calls from Cone and O'Neill in particular so obviously driven by the individual leading the call.

Ruocco is an incredible announcer. I can't wait to hand him the reigns.

And as a Nets fan, he's my BACKUP guy, to the awesome Ian Eagle.

The current Nets crew (Eagle and Ruocco on PBP, Kustok, Jefferson, and Spanarkle on color) is my second favorite ever for all my teams behind the greatest of all time: in-their-primes Sam and JD.




Also, speaking of the Nets crew, this post inspired me to look up their background and, holy f***, I discovered THIS:

Im not trading German for Stroman.German has great stuff and could become better then him down the line

No to trade German. Stroman is better but he isn't really that much of an upgrade on German.
 
Even with his rough outing the other day, you dont trade a 26 year old 12 likely 15+ game winner.

Yankees shouldn't be subtracting from their starting rotation unless its Happ coming out for a Bauer or Stroman.

Right now German is not better than Stroman. Right now this team is gearing up for a WS run. You wouldnt trade German for Stroman? German who likely tops out as a #3 starter if his stuff can stay consistent over the 162 game season? Thankfully youre not the GM. This is not the time to hold onto prospects or secondary players who could be great in 2, 3, 4 years down the line.



German’s numbers and all other yankees starters are not those above.

If German was the difference in not giving up a younger prospect who would make more sense to keep in terms of development than so be it. That younger prospect might have a 4-5 year timeline to making a regular impact with still a higher ceiling, at the moment.

German is not going to be a factor in the rotation in the playoffs. Stroman would.

Hopefully Sevy bumps Paxton down.

Its not ideal to move German, but they could replace his spot with Gerrit Cole in the offseason.

The time to win is now.

You evidently cant read.i said he could become better down the line.No,i wouldnt trade him for a lateral move at best.Stroman isnt a piece to put us over the top to become a W.S favorite either.Thankfully you arent the G.M either.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I give up German for Stroman in a blink of the eye. Not because Stroman is the bee's knees but because like someone said German probably won't even figure into the equation come postseason. I also don't think he'll turn into anything special

And I also disagree that Stroman won't put us over the top. We're currently the best team in the AL East and Stroman has been dominant this season... how does that not put us over the top again?

People forget that Stroman is only 28, and German is turning 27 in a week.

I like German, but it's not like he's 22. If he was and pitching like this, I'd be more hesitant in giving him up.

As I argued in the last response to your very off base opinion, Stroman for German is by no means a “lateral move”. Not even close.

How about checking out the numbers. How about you go do that. I have already presented some of them TWICE.

His GB% is up and this while pitching in the AL East. His sinker has been incredible lately. He logs innings on top of it.

But you know what youre right none of those FACTS could help us put over the top. We dont need a SP who can go throw 6 innings minimum and keep the ball in the park. Who needs that?

I would rather a better pitcher.If Stroman is Cashmans best move,we arent winning shit.We dont need another #2 or 3 rotation guy,we need an ace.Knock it off with the sarcastic tone too...if you dont like my opinions,dont respond or ignore me.
 
Stroman is a free agent after next season. Do you let him walk? What contract do you give him? I'd be nervous giving Stroman a long-term deal. How many pitchers his size hold up? German is in his 2nd season and has 4 more years of control.

Yes If I'm the Mets I'll take Florial for Wheeler but Cashman isn't going to do that. Mets aren't trading Syndergaard and if they do I can't see them getting what they say they are looking for (ie being blown away). Cashman will get the better of BVD in any trade which is why I just don't think the Mets have anything to gain. Mets need to deal with teams with equally incompetent GMs.

So much better than Michael Kay. I don't mind when Cone and O'Neill are together. Cone can be a tough listen when he's by himself or with Flaherty.

I know he's liked by many, but I cannot stand Singleton.

Dont bitch about the sarcastic tone when you make comments such as ‘you evidently cant read.’ Sorry man you dont get to make condescending comments and then cry that I am not taking a nice tone with you.

That fact that you dont think we need a #2 just puts the cap on this discussion right there. A #2 would give us a much a better option, and depth, than we have now.

Quite the approach to take, ‘Ace or bust’. And if Cashman cant pull an Ace out of his ass then screw this season we arent winning anything. Dont make any other moves, they are worthless.

And you can call that being sarcastic, or maybe its just an very clear interpretation of what you just said.
 
Dom Smith asked the team for outfield reps throughout spring training and they declined and now he's been our regular LF.
