Stroman is a free agent after next season. Do you let him walk? What contract do you give him? I'd be nervous giving Stroman a long-term deal. How many pitchers his size hold up? German is in his 2nd season and has 4 more years of control.
You're way overthinking it. You get Stroman for 2 postseason runs and he's a pretty significant upgrade on German. If and what you re-sign him for depends on how he pitches for those 1 and a half years.
I see German more more as a swingman kind of guy anyway.
Anyone who thinks Marcus Stroman isn't a huge upgrade on German doesn't know.
I know he just got shelled in that crazy Minny game, but before that, he had a 3.38 Era and a 12-2 record. I don't know if he's only a swingman in the near term (ie, opening night next season). He looks like a good #3 or #4, in the context of the rest of our staff (Sevy+Tanaka makes him #3, Stroman would slot there and make German #4. Haap/Paxton/Monty can battle for #5).
Yankees won't add Grienke.
They met with him when he was a FA and came away from the meeting convinced that he would never be able to hack it in NY.
I want no part of Greinke. He didnt want to come to NY when he was with KC. Then when he became available again, Yanks spoke with him and did not get a good vibe from him at all. This was also a long time ago.

He is a great pitcher but just does not seem to be a fit here.
Also, Snell is having surgery to remove bodies in his elbow. Tampa Bay just seem to have things heading in the wrong direcrion
Greinke as a Yankee has the potential to go all sorts of wrong.
Worked with Javier Vazquez. This was also a long time ago.
I mean Sonny Gray didnt have a prior issue with playing in NY. Greinke did when he was with KC and the Yanks were considering trading for him. And still they circled back when he was a free agent and they still got that same vibe. Id say not much as changed. They thought Sonny Gray would be fine here, lol. Forgive me for not really taking their evaluations at face value.
Maybe not Greinke, but if he'd be willing to come here, then getting him and Robbie Ray from the D'Backs if they sell would be a way to revamp the SP.

I think this comes down to Bauer or Stroman
Bauer is soft AF.
The dude spends his free time on twitter all day arguing with people.
This was also a long time ago.
And fix him making him elite again. Because there is something in the water there...Watch the Astros grab Syndergaard.
