lol there's really no interest in Bruce or even Granderson? I understand no one wanting Assdrible

I guess it's really all about pitching and shoring up the bullpen this season

You think Heyman watches these prospects play?

This was from a writer of Sox-prospects.com. Rule 5 guy, 5 ERA in A ball, remember Domingo Tapia? If your 100 results in runs, its irrelevant how hard you throw.

Did Heyman say he watched them? He spoke to scouts. He got the sense they did well with the trade. He has ties to actual MLB scouts. Could they be wrong? Sure they can.

Not to mention you're completely contradicting yourself in these two posts. They trade Reed, underwhelming. Then you want them to dump the other players. When their return comes back, I'm sure it'll be underwhelming too. Never satisfied.

Heyman didn't suggest he watched the prospects play. He is reporting what scouts are saying.

It's almost like you read what he said and not what you wanted him to say.

I like Alderson, he's a good GM, but he's been really bad with trades the last few years. He was brilliant with them before that by getting us Syndergaard, Wheeler, d'Arnaud, but recently, he's been really bad with it. Got bailed out by Gomez failing a physical, gave up a top of the rotation pitcher for a rental Cespedes, the Reed trade was underwhelming. Is he going to even trade Bruce, Granderson, Cabrera, Walker?

No, thats not my opinion. I'm realistic about what we'd get for Bruce, Walker, Granderson or Cabrera. It wouldn't be much, get rid of them so their playing time can go to others, we are out of the playoff race. I would've taken any prospect for them. How much longer are Rosario and Smith going to sit in AAA?

Reed should've gotten us a bigger return, as he's one of the best players on the market. The return on Reed is important, he was always going to be traded, the others it would be an accomplishment to trade, so getting them traded for any type of prospect would be good.

Pavel B you question whether Heyman watches these kids? What about roughly the 5 guys in here who act like they stand on the side lines with a clipboard and watch these prospects daily? I will take Heymans thoughts everytime

Justin Wilson also was not a rental. He has another year of control. So do guys like Britton and Brach. Hand has two years.

Reed was a pure rental. 2 months of a player. He was not Chapman quality. He was not going to be a closer for anyone, except maybe Washington.

You're comparing two months of Reed with 1 year and 2 months of Wilson. That extra year of control has value. Not to mention Wilson has been substantially better than Reed. He's LH and throw nearly 100. He has 55Ks in 40 IP and a sub 1 WHIP. I'd say his value is pretty substantially higher than Reed's. He also did not need to be moved. Reed basically had to be traded before 4PM today.

We don't know the context of the conversation with the scout. I wouldn't take that to mean its a good trade, that tweet is nice, its not a bad thing, but it doesn't override other reports.

Here's another take from someone who's paid to watch these players.

Reed also has a lower ERA than Wilson. Reed is really good, you are underrating him here. He was one of the best rentals on the market. I realize he's a rental, I wasn't expecting a big haul, but I would've expected more than not getting any top 15 prospects in our system, and maybe not any top 20 prospects in our system. I'm also slightly disappointed that the Mets chose to let the RedSox pay Reed's salary. I don't know the context, maybe that wouldn't have increased the return, but it just feeds into the narrative that the Mets are cheap and will do anything to not spend money. Its a bad look for the team.

For a player you'll get nothing for if not dealt? I'll take it. Find me the last non-Chapman rental reliever that got a haul in return at the deadline. I'd enjoy seeing the return.

Pretty subpar return for a good pitcher, I think. He was dominant last year and not nearly as good this, so that may play into it, but yeesh. Was hoping for at least someones top 10 positional prospect. The best possible case scenario of this is getting a cheaper, team-controlled Reed in 2-3 years.

No way you get anything for Cabrera. It's probably not even worth the aggravation of working the phones for hours on end for what you'd ultimately get back. Granderson I thought would go TBH but again value wouldn't be much and I think he's going to retire this winter. I'm more and more convinced Bruce is coming back. He's expressed interest here and there and Francessa for what it's worth said the Mets organization has every intention on making him an offer this winter. Remember too last year that Bruce didn't adjust well at the deadline in 2016 and is a poor 2nd half guy historically. This is lowering his value probably as well and maybe if Sandy is fully intent on signing him he's not going to ship him out for a 50th best prospect and uproot the guy and his family again when it was clear he wasn't too happy in that scenario last year

Kap has lost a lot of development, Fowler had the brutal injury, Mateo just started hitting after floundering in High A, like it.

Don't hate it at all. Love Fowler but the return rate for people who have the injury he had (across sports) is very low.

Mateo is whatever and Kaprelian basically has the same drawbacks that Gray has, except hes younger.

Keeping Florial is HUGE.

Very glad to see they kept Florial. Kaprilian and Fowler both sustained some pretty major injuries. Mateo will probably be the biggest loss but getting Gray with a couple more cost controlled years is a big win.
