Need to look at a list of pitchers at Gray's height that threw 200+ innings after the age of 27.

Hint: You won't find many.

Yankees would be the underdog but I could definitely see them getting by Cleveland. Houston would be a whole different animal.

Houston's rotation isn't that great and honestly their bullpen doesn't strike fear in me either. Cleveland on the other hand, is incredibly well rounded and has been constructed very intelligently.

Cleveland was my WS pick before the season started and I still see it playing out that way, injuries aside.

Of course, Houston has mashed the faces of pretty much the entire Yankee rotation so theres that to take into consideration.

The Yankees getting out of the AL isn't the problem so much IMO as it is beating the Nats or dodgers in the World Series. I'd give them a shot vs LA and next to none vs the Nats

This, "if you're not the overwhelming favorites, you shan't bother" meme is even dumber in baseball than it is in hockey

With the exception of a few cases it's pretty easy to get the World Series winner close to correct in baseball most years. I don't think anyone legitimately thinks Colorado or Arizona or Kansas City have any chance this year despite the fact they'll all probably make the playoffs.

I agree, but who is suggesting this here? I think we would all be happy with a playoff appearance and look for improvements next season.

Don't forget you have two more years of Gray and 1.5 million in the international spending pool. I like this deal.

This is true. This helps our whole window, not just this year.

I can't see them beating the Indians or Astros unfortunately.

If I'm betting on it, I agree, but anything can happen in 5 games.

If we just get Judge going again, we're really dangerous

**** sign me up to lose in the World Series

Gray is most useful in that the guy throws practically no pitches. Even in games where he sucks the guy has 60 pitches in the 6th. He's likely not to overwork the bullpen in a playoff series. I'm just not convinced he's any better than a #2 on a so-so team and I don't trust him vs an elite offense in an LCS or a WS. Look at guy like Tanner Roark who consistently beats the peasants during the season but has been mediocre for the most part in any playoff games vs good offense

The other thing, like in any sport, post-season experience and a bit of success can go a long way towards a young players development. Sanchez. Judge. Didi. Severino. Frazier. Get those guys some games and some experience

Ehhh, not a fan of it. Particularly in this city where it feels like the opposing fan base is gonna give you crap about it for the entire next season. I saw it myself all of 01-02. Yankees fans were just always retorted with "nice game 7 last year bruh"

Joe Smith, another rental reliever, who has numbers similar to Reed got ZERO top 30 prospects from the Indians.

I've seen my team win a World Series five times. I've got a ways to go before anyone's crap really sticks.

Yes, that's was me bringing out the jump to conclusions mat. Yankees trade for Gray and I see people fawning over the odds-on favorites, and the Tanner Glass horns come out.

Darvish to LA. That hurts the Cubs and Nats....badly....now Hill is basically your weak link in a series

So at this point I assume no Rosario or Smith til the September roster expansion for the Mets since they couldn't move out any position players

filled every hole with #2 SP under control for 2.5 years, a dominant RP under control till 2021, a #5 better than we had, a top notch SU man under control through next year who can close at anytime.. And set up a big run at Otani if he comes over adding extra IFA $ And he kept all of Gleyber, Frazier, Adams, Sheff, Florial and Andujar. BOSS.

Don't get me wrong, if Kaprielian and Fowler get healthy (and I'm sure they will) I like the trade a lot for Oakland too, 3 pretty big pieces.
