The Yankees need to win the division. Don't want to rely on that Wild Card game to really get in.

**** Boston but that win last night was unbelievable.

The Yankees learned in 2015 to you have to go all out for the division. That one game wildcard is the ultimate crap shoot.

I agree 100%.

What they need to do is focus on winning series the rest of the way. If they do that they wont have to worry about what Boston does.

And they play Boston 9 more times. They can decide their own fate.

This is it right there.

Boston got lucky yesterday just like the Yankees did on Friday (Sanchez GB that should have been the 3rd out in the 9th, Moreland reaching on the WP after striking out.) For all the talk about how much of a joke YS is you never hear anything about Fenway, that park turns every mediocre to decent right handed hitter into a ****ing all star.

Nats last postseason series win was?

I think the Nats are making it to at least the LCS this year. It's hard to have that sort of talent and continue to fail over and over. If they can't get past a less hungry Cubs team who in reality have lousy starting pitching this year I don't know what to think. I would be surprised if Baker wasn't fired if they dont make the LCS

If the Cubs can overtake the Nats the Nats would have to go through LA. I don't think the Nats can beat the Cubs anyway. Don't forget that the Cubs picked up Quintana. Time will tell how much better the Nats pen is.

Nats won't beat the Cubs. Same issues plague them every year. They cannot beat a good team. When challenged, they got nothing.

The only year in the past 4-5 they got challenged for the division (2015) they choked it away. The Mets ran away with it. Every year they lose in the NLDS and people wonder why. It's just like the Caps. Fold under the pressure.

Are you really going to trust Gio Gonzalez in a Game 3? Strasburg is never healthy come September. He'll come down with something. Their pen is awful still. No closer on their roster. A bunch of 7th/8th inning guys. Hitting becomes harder come playoff time and they don't have the backend guys to get it done.

Cubs wont win in the post season. They never do, same issues that plague them every year. They always chok...

Oh wait..

Why would you not trust Gio Gonzalez? He's been a good robbery good pitcher for years yet constantly has this reputation to the contrary

This Nationals team is the same team over the years. Harper, Werth, Rendon, Scherzer, Strasburg, Gonzalez, Zimmerman, etc.

Their core hasn't done anything.

The Cubs core: Arrieta, Rizzo, Bryant, Russel, Lester, Baez, Schwarber, etc. had 1 chance at it before they won last year. They ran into a buzzsaw (Mets) after beating the favored Cardinals.

They're very young and had almost no track record, and the short record they did have was already better than the Nats. Obviously long term (108 years) was not, but they won a playoff series the year before.

You're doing that caps a disservice. Nats haven't won a playoff series since 1981. Caps got to the 2nd round 3 straight years.

None of that really matters.

They're collectively better than they were last year. The Cubs will be a tough out for anyone because they're good, they suffered through the most understandable world series hangover ever.

If the Nats draw them and lose, it won't be because they're "chokers", it'll be because Chicago is one of the 3 legit teams in the NL.

Difference is the Caps are facing the 8th/7th best team in the East the past few years. The baseball equivalent would be the Nats playing a team like the Mets/Cardinals/Pirates ilk. They beat those teams continually.

Nats lost to the cardinals a few years ago.

They don't have a closer. Melancon was at least very good at what he does. Ryan Madson, Sean Doolittle, Kintzler, Koda Glover in the 9th inning vs a good team? Not happening.

Fenway is a bigger joke than Yankee Stadium. Right field wall is less than 300 feet away and that monstrosity in left field is an automatic double on a pop fly.

Yeah if there is a pitfall its going to be the back end of the bull pen, I won't argue against that (and Dusty Baker is likely to do something stupid along the way.)

But they score a **** load of runs and their rotation depth continues to be excellent. The lack of 9th inning guy may really not matter when they're facing an opponents 3rd and 4th starters.

I think locking them into a first round exit is a bit too much of wishful thinking. FWIW, I don't think they come out of the NL or get by the Cubs either (I got a re match in the WS this year) but the Top 3 teams in the NL aren't too far apart from each other.

Unless you hit it right down the RF line near the pesky pole, RF in Fenway actually plays like a pitchers OF. It ranks as 3rd worst parks for LH home run hitting because the wall is 380 feets unless you hit it down the line.

Fenway is a major hitters park because of the Monster obviously and because it has the fewest amount of foul ground based on SQ feet which means no foul outs.

Dodgers are gonna play the winner of Rockies/DBacks Wild Card and the Nats are gonna draw the Cubs in the NLDS.

Probably gonna be a repeat of the NLCS last year

You can't compare a stadium built one hundred years ago to a modern creation. Fenway was built to fit into a specific parcel of land within a few city blocks. The quirky dimensions were borne out of necessity.

The modern parks, going back to Jacobs Field and Camden Yards, have been "quirky" for fun, nostalgia or to produce a certain product.

I know Mets fans probably don't want to see the Nats win a WS, but in the long run it may benefit the Mets. I think it makes it more likely that Harper leaves after next year as he'd be more willing to just chase money at that point vs be concerned about remaining with a good team and it seems for whatever reason teams win they win a World Series aren't that great the next season. We saw it with Chicago this year and several others in recent seasons

I like the park effects factor in baseball. Changes strategy and nuances of that game based on whose hitting and pitching. How you should shift on a particular batter.

Then there's Coors Field which is like playing baseball on a different planet.

People were hinting that Gray might struggle now that he's playing in the AL East and all the hitter's parks here but given he has a high GB rate, I aint worried.

Maybe so, but if he's only chasing a pay day, there are only a handful of teams that can afford him, right? And because of that financial might they're all good. I mean yeah you have teams like San Francisco and Toronto having off years, but generally speaking the teams that can afford him are also the good teams. I mean it's not like Kansas City or Colorado will come up with a few hundred million to sign him.

I think most would agree just get him the hell out of the division. I doubt anyone cares where he goes as long as it isn't Atlanta Philly or Miami
