Why not get the best possible deal you can? This is final big payday.

Depends on the definition of a superstar. He's no Cabrera or Trout but he's a very good player who plays a premium position.

I understand that but its obvious nobody except Seattle will give you that money so why keep trying? And good player yes, $200 mil good?

Mariners offered 8/200 and would go 9/225 to get it done, Jay Z said 10/252 and the Seattle management blew up and ended the meeting lol. per NYDN

My point exactly. Where does Jay-Z fit in this situation? Shouldnt he be worried about his amazing Nets?

I said all.along I would be shocked to high hell if he spent his next 9/10 years in freaking seattle knowing the kind of lifestyle he lives

JayZ does not know what he is doing. Mariners offer most money by a lot and JayZ goes back and asks for more. Cano wants to be a Yankee. It all just looks like JayZ trying to get a team to say yes to the best offer possible before going back to the yankees to match. Now talks have broken down.

Don't see the Yankees offering more than $185 million with there being no other suitors.

Its so ridiculous. Imagine Callahan firing his agent and hiring Jay-Z? Its hard to take Jay-Z in sports serious

I don't get why he couldn't have kept Boras and hired Jay-Z to be an image consultant since building his brand is what he supposedly really wants from him. Why did he need Jay-Z to negotiate his contract?

I have no idea man, its all a joke to me. When i heard Jay-Z was involved i thought it was some kind of publicity stunt. It makes me think Cano is a bit of a clown too

Clown? He is the face of the New York Yankees. He wants to exploit that further. Jay-Z would help him with that. But contract negotiator? Jay-Z isn't that.

Yankees can live without him though. If they did lose him, the organization will move on. He wants big money to freeze up when it really counts

We should probably wait to see what Cano signs for before proclaiming Jay-Z an idiot.

I have a hard time believing that whatever Jay-Z ultimately gets for Cano is as much or more than Boras would've.

This is starting to look like Jay Z is saving the yanks $

Boras would've been more likely to get top $ somewhere & he'd been gone

I can't see how he wins regardless of what happens. The original number that was thrown out there is not going to be anywhere near where things ultimately end up. His client left an agent who managed to get an insane amount of money out the Yankees for Ellsbury.

He looks exactly like what he is: an amateur or a neophyte.

I don't know. Boras is a master of marketing his players and always manages to create a market.

Jay-Z seems intent on destroying markets.

Yeah. It just doesn't add up. Boras has the track record. Look at what he got for Fielder when his market looked like it had stalled out.

Jon Heyman********✔*@JonHeymanCBS#yankees getting closer to deal with kuroda. not quite done but should be about $16M, 1 yr

Sherman just tweeted from every exec he talked to the consensus is after turning down 9/225 there is no reason to put in an offer

The beauty of how Scott Boras works is his ability to deliver players to the team that makes the biggest offer (or at least the credible threat).

Boras is a snake, but when you bid big as a franchise, you know Boras is in your corner pushing for you (until he can find a bigger offer elsewhere). Boras doesn't care for the player, but the market and setting the necessary precident for future free agents.

In this Jay-Z negotiation, they've made it clear from Day One they just want a patsy organization to use their bid directly against the Yankees.

Interesting take on the Damon & Boras:
