Jacoby Ellsbury had 5.8 bWAR last year. That puts him in the top 20 position players in baseball. That wasn't a good year?
Not for that money though. I meav even Mike Francesa who is the ultimate Yankee fan hated the deal

i think its a bizarre contract by seattle. hes 31 so unless they win a world series in the next 5 years he wont be worth it. even the yanks with all their financial might are ****ed with arods deal, what is seattle gonna look like in 7-8 years when canos got 75m left on the deal and hes an average to slightly above avg hitter and a liability in the field?!?

I'm not saying it's a good deal. I'm saying you can't tell me he has only had one good year. He has only had one year where he was an MVP candidate. But that's different from a good year.

Cano got his money, but this is not a good move for him. Seattle is kind of a irrelevant market and they are not a good team. Cano cant carry their offense alone. This is going to end up being a disaster for Cano and Seattle.

He would of been much better off taking the 175 million and staying in New York.

I agree with most of this but saying

Boras to Jay Z = sideways move AT WORST?

Is basically saying

Hank to Cam = sideways move

Lets see more than 1 deal get done before we make that assumption.

Sure, I'm willing to wait before stating that as fact. I'd bet my reputation, though, that he continues to do fantastic things for his clients. For all the reasons I stated above. He's one of the most connected and influential figures in the world, for better or worse.

Good deal for the Mets. Grandy will do well. Good attitude and locker room guy. Middle of the order hitter. Need some lineup depth. Need to find a SS now. Add a starter.

just to be clear and I loved cano as the hitter he was, I would NOT go to 10 years on ANYONE. Mike Trout included

Yanks did well by not signing him. Cano did well by going for the money. If you're angry about him not signing for less money ask yourself what would you have done. It's 60 million dollars more. You'd leave that on the table to play for ungrateful fans that would turn on you the first second they got?

Cano's not going to be able to maintain his dominance for longer the 3-4 years. In NY, he'd be booed on even a 500k salary if he couldn't produce. 24 mill contract/year for not producing 5+ years would be a disaster. The point wasn't to get a fair deal, the point was to rip whoever got him off. Once you saw his demands were for that long and that high, you should have been able to tell that he didn't have any intention of giving home term discounts and fair deals.

Good job by Cano. He gets his contract, and after his playing days are over he can do whatever he wants.

Good job by Yanks. Not getting sucked into another 10 year deal.

Mike Trout's going to reach free agency at age 26. Ten years only takes him to 36. If he doesn't get extended somebody is going to offer him $300 million or more barring injuries.

dont care lol, 10 years for anyone in sports is crazy. all it takes is one misstep, and ur not the same again

WHAT IT MEANS:*A source told ESPN New York on Friday that Cano told Yankees teammates he was going to the highest bidder, that's it. Well, that is exactly what he has done, taking off for the beautiful city of Seattle because of one reason -- they have offered him the third-largest contract in baseball history.*
