6 goals + 2 assists in the last 10 games riding a hot 23,3 shooting % on the year. Xhekaj is 1 goal away from cracking the top-10 in goals for rookies with his league leading penalty minutes as of today. Performing in all situations, it's hard to not be excited about his potential at this point. Such a great 4th round pick.

Depending on how many bodies get moved at the TDL, he should be in the mix to get his first cup of coffee in the big league. Still 20 years old until june 27th, I saw him a fourth-line center or third-line LW. I'm leaning towards the third line for Florian. He just needs to add some more weight on his lanky frame to be more solid in his fights and on his skates. He's going to be a menace alongisde his brother for many, many years to come.
It’s like something happened to him when he scored 3 goals and added 2 assists on December 15th 2024.
8 goals, 2 assists in his last 20 with 85 penalty minutes. I think it’s safe to say that with a little more discipline he is closer to 20 goals.

With Laval being decimated with injuries, he is showing he can step his play up when given more responsibilities.

I have watched Florian closely since he was drafted and quickly came to the realization that his supposed fighting and physicality prowess was overstated and his hockey skills, particularly his straight forward speed and offensive vision, were greatly understated.

The comparative level of Florian’s developing hockey skills are best understood when knowing that in the OHL, he ran his team’s power play and that in the AHL, as a rookie, he plays on his team’s penalty killing unit. This kid is no mere bottom line thug or enforcer. Florian is no supersized Pezzetta. He’ll make and succeed in the NHL based on his high hockey skills. But I would provide this cautionary note: unless Florian gains more quickness and agility to his skating, he will never be more than a fringe player at the next level.

Do you guys feel he has a really good chance becoming a full time NHLer?

If so, when do you guys figure he will be with Montreal? Next year? Couple years? Etc

He will get a chance to crack the bottom 6 next year.........will he do it?
Chester may have that answer, he watches the kid all the time........Chester? Can the kid crack the lineup next year?

Florian will more than likely be the answer to our right handedness down the middle in a year or two.
They had him playing with Beck the other day and had them splitting the face off duties. Both those players can indeed play a wing if need be.

Worst case scenario, FX becomes a regular bottom-6 player (maybe 3rd liner) by the time one of Gallagher or Anderson is off the roster.

So many factors will dictate that answer: What Hughes does this approaching trade deadline; Will the Canadiens be active in the free agency market? Which prospects (Beck, Demidov, Kapanen, etc.) will make the team? The biggest issue will be if this very young player can increase his skating ability and physical strength. Right now, it’s uncertain if Florian will be a Nick Paul type of forward or a smaller, slower version of Michael McCarron. The former would be good and the latter less so.

But people have to watch , assess and see a player for what he is, and could be. Not what the ever prevailing consensus is about the player. The first time I saw Florian play and saw his straightforward speed and skill I suggested that he should be on Team Canada's radar for last year's WJC team. I was widely mocked for such an outrageous suggestion. As it turned out, we could have used his size, speed and skill.

Florian has succeeded at every level he has played at: OHL and now the AHL. The gap between the AHL and the NHL is as wide as the Grand Canyon. Very few players can make the leap successfully. In my opinion, if Florian can add that crucial missing element of quickness and acceleration to his skating, he has the size, skill, vision, shot and determination to be a productive winger at the NHL level. I doubt he has the skating style to be an effective NHL center. Think Kirby Dach, only slower.

But this kid is not the bruising, hyper-aggressive, penalty prone player that so many here expect. We don't want him to be that type of player. We need him on the ice where his above average hockey skills will win games for us. It's all about his skating as to when, and if, he can make and succeed at the NHL level.

I think he will.

I’d be surprised if it was next season, Beck and Kapanen are definitely ahead of him right now. It would take a pretty big carving of our line up for Flojack to be on the NHL starting roster next season.

I think it’s definitely possible for the 26-27 season though.

With Anderson and Gallagher still here next season, and Emil Heineman establishing himself as an NHLer this season, there will be one spot open on the wing in the bottom-6, maybe less if Hughes acquires a stop gap 2C and Dach gets converted to the wing, with a player like Laine dropping down to the third line with Heineman?

Florian plays center, but i guess he can play on the wing too.

What Florian brings as a big, gritty and surprisingly skilled center is different than what Kapanen or Beck bring. Another thing is that Florian is a left hand shot which is lacking amongst Hab centers.
Having this many promising center prospects is a nice problem to have.

He has more goals as a AHL Rookie than he did as an OHL Rookie lol..

There's something there for sure, especially since we dont need him to be a top6 player

Even after all the jokes about it we might still be actually getting our own real live Bash Brothers on the same team in the not so distant future lol

Can't wait

He does not have "high" hockey skills and is overwhelmingly more likely to be a bottom six player than a top six player.

Florian is a big, rugged kid with enough skill to perhaps get a look in a middle six NHL role but he is not some fast, skill player being misrepresented as a blue collar type.

He needs to fill out his frame some more, especially his upper body and continue to work hard as he has a chance to be a real asset at the NHL level. Let's not be unreasonable and pretend that he is a skill first player and is on the verge of becoming a high impact NHLer.

I am not saying that he can not become a legitimate top of the line up power forward but that is an unlikely scenario in any reasonable conversation. Personally, I am hoping that he becomes our next Mike McPhee and we should all be grateful if he does as that is much closer to his ceiling.

As always, thanks for your honest assessment...I think that Sam Pollock would have given you a job with the Habs in a heartbeat.

I didn’t realize he’s third for goals scored behind only Davidson, Dauphin, and Roy… with 126 PIMS. I would love to see both him & Tuch succeed and translate their game to the NHL.
