I bet Yanks go 8/$200mil but can buyout the final year cheaper. Saves face for Cano & gets it done.

I think I like Santana the most of the UFA SP

I wouldn't mind adding another bullpen arm like Balfour

Not so sure about Santana. He can very prone to long ball and is a flyball pitcher. In that park not a good fit.

I don't think some Yankee fans realize how good Cano is.. Jeter played 17 games last season, mark Teixiera played 15 games, Granderson? 61, Arod? 44 games.. Soriano? 58.. That means Cano played almost 100 games with NONE of them in the lineup. With no one hitting in front OR behind him, this was his season.. 160 games, 314/27/107 with an OBP of .388, an OPS of .899, and an OPS+ of 145 with a team that was 16th in RS last season with 650 runs scored, on top of his offense he is good for at least 150+ games per season, and he plays GG defense at a position which quite frankly doesn't produce much elite talent, hes not just very good, hes great as he proved again last season with zero help until Soriano arrived. I think some Yankee fans just really underrate how good he is because they make a mountain out of a molehill where he doesnt hustle 100 percent of the time.

He had the Great Vernon Wells.

Talking about it from Seattle's perspective.

Yankees have played everything perfectly.

Seattle is desperate for a top notch hitter. If that is a serious offer they'll keep it on the table for as long as Cano is a free agent.

completely forgot about that.. dont forget lyle overbay, chris stewart, and the immortal travis hafner.

Didn't mind Hafner that first month or so. That O's game he tied with a HR with 2 outs in the 9th and won it extras is a game I wont forget for a while.

But in the two years since, Ellsbury has hit 13 home runs and driven in 79 runs over 880 at-bats. Going back to 2010, Ellsbury has played in 384 of a possible 648 regular season games, 59 percent.Cracked ribs limited Ellsbury to 18 games in 2010. In 2012, a shoulder injury led to a three-month stint on the disabled list. Ellsbury broke a bone in his right foot last season and missed 16 games in September. that's awful no matter if they are "freak injuries" or not

Seattle doesnt make sense for Cano. Its far from his family and its a pitchers park for a losing franchise. Jay-Z wants him near NYC.

Still, I cant see how anybody ignores 25-50 million extra.

Yanks have lots of money to retool, especially with all these expiring contracts in the next 1-3 years.

The 1996 team were mostly hired guns. The entire dynasty teams were riddled with expensive FAs. Their current farm system has good players to compliment the hired guns. They just need to clean out the garbage, force Jeter to retire and get Texeira out of here.

Steinbrenner asking for a chance to match makes me think there's no way they don't keep him unless Seattle gets terribly desperate.

I bet 8/$200mil in NY is the final deal

8/200 is my max... and thats a great offer when NY gives him everything he wants. if he leaves for more oh well but don't make it easy for him

Yeah I agree. A full $200mil is a reasonable max.

I think Sea will have to offer over $225mil to get him.

A Sea football writer says this is typical Mariners M.O. going after guys they know they can't get so they can tell the fans "hey, we tried"

Totally, that $225M offer is on a website, provided by a source, any source, pick the source.

It makes perfect sense that Seattle would throw $50m more at somebody for no apparent reason.
No apparent reason? Isn't trying to get Cano the apparent reason?

Not when no one else is offering anywhere close to that $225 million. Its the same stupidity the yankees pulled by offering Ellsbury $153. Who else was offering that or even close to that? The difference between that contract and the one the M's are offering to Cano is the yankees are in a much better position to contend with many less holes than seattle has. Seattle needs Cano and then some...and then someu more again.

I said it yesterday, yankees offer 7 years at $189 million with team option for 8th year at $11 million, and a NMC. Cano leaves $25 million on the table to stay in NY.

When players suffer injuries such as Ellsbury has I don't consider that player to be injury prone. In 2010 he collided with Adrian Beltre, broke his ribs and then suffered a setback when he returned early. In 2012 he did his shoulder sliding into 2nd base when Reid Brignac landed on top of him.

I mean should we call Buster Posey injury prone too. He missed most of 2011 season after he collided at home plate with Scott Cousins.

Injury prone player to me is someone like Jose Reyes and his hamstring issues.

Yes, I already mentioned they were freak injuries BUT I question his durability among many other things with him that I dont with Cano. Ellsbury is a MUCH bigger risk with a long term deal than Cano is

The Yankees ****ed themselves with the Ellsbury deal. They MIGHT have had leverage on Cano before, that all went out the window after that deal. Cano is so much better than Ellsbury its not even funny.. and how many players no matter where it is, leave a difference of 55M om the table?

Cashman on Cano "everyone is replaceable, some are just harder than others".. can someone tell me when he decided he was going to become Randy Levine? not to mention, he already publically stated he thought Cano would chase the money. now is he wrong on either account? maybe not, but when did he decide he was gonna turn into Levine part 2 and have an opinion about everything public?

Cano should take the yankees offer instead of trying to squeeze every dime out of them. Guys like that make me sick, people sleeping outsidr starving and he's hanging out with the clown Jay-Z looking for the biggest contract he can get. Let him rot in Seattle if he decides to go there. Since when did washed up rappers get involved in baseball negotiations?

I have no issues what so ever with Cano chasing a massive payday. And I'm a Yankees fan. If he gets it and it's with someone else, best of luck to him.

ive already stated both will be at fault, but I'm always respected cash was not like this before

Ok but why try to squeeze every cent out of them? Cano should take the offer and thats it. He isnt a superstar. You win with Cano not because of him, sign the damn deal

IA its the nature of FA but if ur going to severely overpay someone, why is it not Cano over freaking Ellsbury? 9-10 years? no, but not even 8? when we just gave Ells 7 @ 22m per with an 8th yr option?

Why not get the best possible deal you can? This is final big payday.

Depends on the definition of a superstar. He's no Cabrera or Trout but he's a very good player who plays a premium position.

I'd rather pay Cano than Ellsbury too but I'm just saying I hold no grudges if Cano takes the big bucks from someone else.
