Because we've been told that Marner had a great playoffs because he had over a ppg. Here is the Corsi stats from close and tired games 5vs5.

Marner (tied 5vs5) - 47.9%
Marner (close 5vs5) - 46.8%

Matthews (tied 5vs5) - 49.4%
Matthews (close 5vs5,) - 48.7%

Kucherov (tied 5vs 5) - 62.6%
Kucherov (close 5vs5) - 63.3%

Matthews had similar corsi, but here is an article indicating that Matthews game didn't change a whole heck of a lot from the season. However, Marners did substantially (mainly he was playing much further from the net, ie the physical areas). Which the author speculates was in part what led to Matthews drop off.

It’s also tough to make sense of Matthews’ dried-up point totals, but what really dropped were his primary assists, which went from 1.16 (per 60) to 0.48. Hindsight is 20/20, but seeing how far Marner was living from the net in the above stats, and that Calle Jarnkrok was on Matthews’ left side, maybe it would’ve been tough to tally many points on passes.

After being arguably the best player in the 3 on 3 All Star tournament, it’s easy to think that Marner will have a huge finish to the rest of the season.

So far, same stuff from Mitch as before. He'll get his points against average clubs. There isn't a difference in playoff performances.

I think it’s a disgrace when Mitchell Marner is more physical than nylander, Matthews, Tavares, bertuzzi, knies, domi, especially tonight

I still don’t like his playstyle at all, but it feels like he’s thrown more noticeable hits than Matthews and nylander combined

They all had one hit each according to the NHL stats. Is 1+1= 0 ?

Nylander need to move his feet more, and find his aim, but why should move playing with Tavares?. Matthews has to be more physical but he dont need to hit, just showel(??) guys away from him. Act more like a icebreaker and drive past guys. Maby he takes that role with lesser players on his wings.

I’m genuinely surprised that they all had 1. Marner had the hit on barzal

Nylander probably fell on a guy and Matthews did it by accident I bet  jk

The Tavares excuse only gets him so far, and yesterday Tavares got him 1-2 really good chances that he couldn’t bury. If nylander isn’t moving his feet because Tavares is on his line either nylander isn’t worth anything more than his current dollar amount or Tavares is the worst hockey player in the league

Matthews is 6 foot f***ing 3 and 215 pounds. A player like barzal or Horvat or any one should be knocked on his ass once a game minimum. If he wasn’t so soft he’d realize there is a handful of players who could withstand a hit from him, and he could be imposing as hell, but instead he is fine with being an elite trigger man with alright defence with not much else to his game.

As this is a Marner thread though, I still think he’s underperforming a bit, especially in the assist totals. He needs to get that back to mid 60s

He definately had more than 1 hit, those numbers are never very accurate.
He's certainly underperforming, part of that is not having a left winger that can play with him and Matthews. I wasn't a Bunting fan but they miss him there.

Makes sense, in general he looks to be more physical this season, now if that holds if we make the playoffs is yet to be seen, but at least the attempt is there for now.

It’s pretty crazy to think going into the season most people were hyped up by our LW depth this season in Bert knies Robertson. Bert being ineffective really screwed with our offence since He was the only reliable top 6 LW we had and he has failed miserably. from 2019 till last year our 1LW was penciled in for 20 goals, now I’m wondering if whoever plays there gets 20 points

Damn i forgot this was a Marner thread :)

Still feel the need to explain the Nylander aint moving. Nylander need moving players to make most out of his style of play. Tavares slows the game down when Nylander need fast pace give and go. Momentum gets killed over and over an over again. They are among the worst top guys together when the mojo is gone. Split them up.

Marner is fine , he is starting to get going now. Still not sure about his performance in the playoffs, if we get there.

Clear with every game, Mitch needs to be the one traded for a core change. Nylander being resigned might make Marner's days numbered
