better do it early, dont want the depreciation that happened to Guentzel happen to Vancouver. Knowing where vancouver is in its competitive cycle, the guentzel deal with a Bunting return is another way that Allvin can go instead of looking for a 1st.

I think it really depends on what the Canucks brass would prioritize in the return. In a vacuum, i think a 1st+ is probably the floor for "value". Anyone dealing for him would clearly be looking to get him signed to an extension right away, so i'm not sure how much that matters. However, i could also see Vancouver wanting to get a young "right now" sort of piece in their early-mid-20s back as part of the deal.

Like for example...i could see New Jersey being interested, and i could see Vancouver coveting someone like say...Mercer as a big piece of the deal. Someone who can backfill the roster and has some upside like that. Rather than a 1st round pick.

If Boeser does go for a pure "futures" deal in a 1st/Prospect...i suspect it'd be like the Horvat trade (or even the Miller deal) where that capital is then pretty much immediately flipped for someone else they want in terms of an actual "right now" player.

As much as I like Brock and he's been a loyal Canuck who i think would be very open to staying at a reasonable tag I hope we move off of him and find someone a bit speedier to add to the roster.

Kinda doubt management would have the balls to trade him if we are in the race but who knows?

Late 1st and decent prospect or later future pick seems reasonable…or something akin to the Granlund deal.

You can compare Boeser to Toffoli in many ways (top six triggermen who play a rather slow style) - but I think Boeser’s top end and rep is at a higher level.

Toffoli also had a proven track record of being a playoff ghost (which he lived up to yet again) while Brock had 7 goals and 12 points in 12 games for Vancouver last year. I think that makes a big difference in how they are viewed. I trust Brock much more as an impact player to be honest.

is it time for people to once again pretend "with extension" will massively increase the value of a rental?

Isn’t he the only slow forward though ?

Either a late first or a couple of second rounders
Wouldn’t mind couple seconds
