because I don’t turn my back on players I actually like. Even if they go on a really bad stretch. I can be really disappointed without being irrational. We are the worst at it. There is really no one like us. Some fans are so fake. Willy was dead to half of you, scores two goals, disappears again and can’t do no wrong. We find someone new to blame every year and it’s never going to change.
Despite what you say, there is actually a lot of rational criticism here.

I noticed he won an award for being the #1 RW in the NHL last year. That was good noticing wasn't it.
Also noticed that was the 1st Leaf player to have such an honor since some player named Borje Salming.

So lets cut him some slack and check back after 20 games.

while I have sort of changed my stance that Marner should be accountable for his lack of play. I do feel people are taking it too far. You can be upset at how he is currently performing without diminishing his accomplishments. If there is anything we leafs fans suck at is recognizing when we have talented players. We channel our years of disappointment at them and completely dismiss the good they actually do. If they do blow it up and we suck for another 10 years. We’ll look back at why in the last 20 years we’ve ran so many talented guys out of town. Just pathetic.

you have people saying he’s not elite daily on here? Saying his regular season stats don’t matter, yet if he doesn’t put up those numbers we don’t even sniff the playoffs. You can’t have a playoffs to be pissed off about if you don’t do well in the regular season and a lot of people are forgetting that part. Which is why I’m saying it’s a bit hypocritical to turn around devalue the success he’s had in the regular season bc you’re mad he shit the bed in the playoffs. He legitimately is one of the best wingers in the league. He is not playing like it in this stretch but the numbers support that he is a top end winger.

Isn't it obvious that at this point of the rebuild, we don't want regular season results but playoff results?

If you don't perform well when it actually matters, then what good is that?

The reputation of leafs fans is the polar opposite of what you think it is.

Want to know what the rest of the league thinks of leaf fans?

  • That we plan the parade after every win
  • That we think all of our players are "the best ever"
  • That we defend inexcusable contracts
  • That we overrate all of our prospects
  • That we take HORRIBLY overpaid player who act entitled and petty, and instead of calling them out for it, we lame remarkably lame excuses.
Marner did all of this to himself and deserves every second of heat he's taking.

There’s no point in arguing with someone who is completely missing the point.

You can be angry about the playoffs without diminishing the real hard work and success he put in the regular season. THERE WOULD BE NO PLAYOFFS TO BITCH AND CRY ABOUT WITHOUT A GOOD REGULAR SEASON.

hell I think that about us too. Especially that we overate our prospects (aka second coming of Christ Timothy Liljegren) But I’m not talking about what other fans think. I talking about as a leafs fan, looking back, why have so many players who we’ve given a hard time here for one reason or another been able to get it done else where and have effective roles? It’s just weird to me.

If they didn't get to the playoffs then the whole thing is moot. When you're paid 11M, there are expectations and standards to meet.

I think the Leaf fans' expectations are pretty low so I honestly believe that you're not seeing things right.

Ugh... how is he this useless currently? It's baffling.

The guy finished in the top five in scoring last year. He's not an $11 mil player, but he definitely shouldn't be a scrub who can't produce at all.

I defended Marner during his contract negotiations and I want to defend him now but man... it's damn near impossible with how he's playing

This is all very concerning.

Marner has lost all confidence. With Marner being essentially 11 mil in dead cap space, the leafs would likely miss the playoffs.

But the more he slumps, the more everyone will turn on him, and the more it will get in his head and continue slumping.

Even if the plan is trade Marner for depth, we need him to have a strong year so as to not plummet his trade value.

I don't know what to say from here. He seems really REALLY off his game.

Said it earlier in the thread. He's mindf***ed from the Montreal series. He saw that picture of him crying in the penalty box from his puck over the glass and he hasn't forgot about it.
