No wonder Marner gets bounced off the puck so easy……..his arms and legs are tiny

This signifies how ridiculous criticism of Marner has become...when ppl think what he wears to the rink determines if he cares or how much he produces....
He is a professional athlete and he should look like it not like he is going to the beach. This group becomes more unlikable by the minute

in fairness, the NHL is the only league that really makes players wear a suit. again just a bit of a traditional thing, but most athletes rarely wear suits to games, has no bearing on perfomance. it's just clothes

And, of course, this leafs team has to be the team to buck that trend

Worst dangerous scoring chance differential
3rd worst xGF

his game just isn’t there and it shows with the eye test and with the underlying numbers.

Almost 10% into a season that is being treated like “the last dance”

not good

It is a mentality thing, wearing sweats or tee shirts are for relaxing while suits or business causal means business.
You are going to work, it is business.
It is not about being old school or new style.
It all starts with the little thing and lead to big thing.
If they dress causal, it usually means their mindset is relax and causal.
I know other leagues don’t have business dress code but since other NHL teams do, it gives them that business like edge.

It is about professionalism and working towards a common goal, not about individualism. So yeah, their dress does reflect on them.

That's ridiculous. How you dress has no impact on how someone plays
You realize they all were wearing suits before, right?
I guess nobody ever didn't play well or "didn't work towards a common goal" because they were all dressed in suits?

Respect comes in many different ways. How you present yourself is a major one.

You present yourself as a cartoon character you get looked at like a cartoon character.

Think Ovy is walking anywhere with that shirt on? Nevermind somewhere with his team.

I'm reminded of the time that Gretzky called the Devils a Mickey Mouse organization. Marner wearing that shirt can be interpreted as him saying his own team is a clown show.

Way to miss the point, and in spectacular fashion.

No it doesn't
I can point you to thousands, maybe millions of times that a dude that wore a suit to a game played like crap and wasn't into the game. Suit or no suit, it has absolutely 0 bearing on how a player plays.

And you're basing this on your vast NHL experience are you?

I just can’t believe we have to throw away another season.
Everyone on earth except Dubas and a few of his fanboys knew we needed to trade Marner (and a few others) in the offseason.
But Dubas said “it wouldn’t make the team better.”
At this point, subtracting him from the roster and spending that money elsewhere absolutely makes the team better.

100% agree.

I myself spent the past year (right after the CBJ series) talking about trading one of the big 4 cause it was the logical thing to do now. Since Tavares has an NMC, it meant Marner was the odd one out. The reality of a stagnant cap meant this was something Dubas had to accept instead of gutting multiple pieces around the core.

Instead of doing the sensible thing, Dubas has completely lost the plot and then doubled down on the core.

Heck, I get not making dramatic moves in-season, but this should have been done during the offseason. He had more than enough information to know this core isn't worth backing especially with a decimated forward group around it.

I feel you can often judge a team's ability to win in the playoffs by how they perform during their best games. It shows you how far they can elevate their game. With that in mind, which win over the past few years suggests they can win four rounds? The ones they do win are always on pure skill while floating around and that stuff doesn't work in the playoffs as we've now learned a million times.

All of that perimeter hockey might look great in the advanced stats but that's not how you win.

This team might even salvage the regular season but once again it will be a disaster in the playoffs. Absolutely nothing has changed and their depth has been reduced to nothing.
