Exactly.

To have to dump a heart and soul player like Hyman to overpay Marner is a tragedy.

Wait til Rielly walks.

This team will suck even more.

Marner doesn't want to win. He got what he wanted via hostage negotiations.

that has more to do with the ridiculous nhl cap system. Tampa lost a whole line and they have no Marner esque contracts

yea he’s shooting the lights out this year but what does that have to do with his piss poor playoff performance? He didn’t score last year for us. Good on him for producing this year with Edmonton
Maybe it’s his line mates and not the narrative that he was holding M&M back

lmao racer he missed open nets. You can go back and watch the games. He had a chance in Game 5. He scores on a open chance we win. He bricked it.

Rielly is garbage and brings nothing to this team.

Hahahahaha.....

The lengths minds will go to create and justify things that are hilariously wrong. Marner went on an offer sheet tour FFS. He was trying to embarrass his GM, when all he did is embarrass himself and put his GM in a box.

Marner is the ultimate definition of a selfish non-team playing asshole. And up until last night, I defended him.

Seeing his reaction to Simmonds spoke volumes....the attention and the adoration was not for him....and he cried on the bench about it.

the bolded reminds me of a game last year ... willie scored in o/t if i recall correctly, team was all happy and jumping on the ice... they showed marner on the bench and he was shooting daggers at willie with his eyes, he lost me right there, it is about mitch, not team

now the countdown until some marner apologists calls me names again LOL

I would say that Hyman produced for the Leafs right about what his contract paid him……..can both his line mates last year say the same?

Though using your analogy if an employee doesn't meet the new set of expectations based on their raise, there tends to be consequences.

I agree that cap management is not the players problem - and Dubas' bares 100% of the responsibility for that (and the earned criticism) BUT Marner asked to be paid like a league superstar, and when he doesn't perform like that on the ice (Habs series, this regular season so far) he's got to deal with his own sets of criticism.

He played hardball in the negotiations (as is his right), essentially got exactly what he wanted. But he's got to deal with the added responsibilities that comes with that - ie leading the team in hard games.
It's fair to criticize Marner, but to say Marner is to blame for the cap issues at the expense of the person who agreed to pay these players and created it is commonplace in this thread and reeks of cognitive dissonance.

Dubas is 100 per cent responsible for all those contracts

Tavares was handed a 11 million

Matthews then asked for 12 based on the fact he I said better

Marner led the leafs in points in all but one year of his elc

Why wouldn’t he ask for what he wanted

Dubas caved because we can and we will

It’s a game

POsters get too emotional to the point of ridiculousness

Death threats / family trashed/

I agree marner needs to be traded

DUbas has caused all the he problems with the leafs

He enabled these entitled players the opportunity to act the way they do

Matthews shouldn’t get a pass either. He won’t be here when his contract is up

you think his teammates are pissed? The NHLPA is encouraging players to make the most the can make so that more players make more money. NHLPA probably is pissed off at guys like Point for taking less than they are worth. That only hurts the future contracts of players and lesser players.
How can it hurt high-level AND mid-level players? Under a hard cap, one group would have to suffer at the expense of another.

If he truly cared he wouldn’t be reading if from a piece of paper. It would have came from his heart. No passion in him when reading this. It was PR move for damage control.
What bugs me the most about Marner is he really didnt deserve the amount of attention he was getting nor the celebrity he became. Hes a good player, but he was getting more attention then Mcdavid. I think he was actually the most googled player a couple years ago.

He is absolutely spoiled here. The fact his parents/family get to be constantly around him, he is one of the top earners for endorsement deals.... etc and we couldnt get him in at 9.5 million or less? Send him to Winnipeg and lets watch his endorsement deals, his celebrity diminish and watch his parents pack their **** to winnipeg.

It is a privilege to play in Toronto.... and he acts like toronto should feel privileged to have him. Imagine how much his life would turn around if he wasnt here.

JT or Marner’s contract is not the problem. The problem is they are not producing. If they are producing snd helping Leafs win, their contracts might not be ideal but they are fine.
Part of having more than one elite talent is about always having elite talent covering when guys who is/are in a slump. If one elite talent is slumping, the others will pick it up.
As of now, it seems like JT is no longer an elite talent and Marner is playing like garbage. Willie and Bunting pretty much stop producing when JT Center their line.
Move JT and Marner to a different line with Simmonds, let Spezza and Kase play with AM, have Bunting, Ker and Willie on a line. And see how it goes.

save me the self-righteous act man lol. Point and those guys didn’t take 9 million to help their team out. They are just as greedy. TB was way over the cap. If point wanted to help he would have taken a lot less than 9 so they didn’t have to throw as many guys overboard as they had to this year.
Point took 6.7, not 9….

thank you, I don’t know why people on here are bullshitting themselves. You think I’m gonna rob myself of 10 million just someone I don’t know will like me more? You’re out of your damn mind
I didn't say everyone would take the $50 mil. Just most people. The non evil/greedy people. It makes NO difference on Marner's lifestyle. None. It's just ego points that come out of his TEAMMATES pockets.

And being that we've seen him literally crying in the penalty box... I'm wondering if he'd prefer the SAME LIFESTYLE without the ridiculous extra pressure.

And if players take team-friendly deals, fans/media 100% go easier on them. You're flat out lying if you suggest otherwise.

Keep dreaming. The vast majority of pro players would take 60.

Regular season on a 3 yr term Point is maybe slightly underpaid . He's a little under the Marner , Rantanen caliber level ,and in the Aho , Barzol class of money and term . Playoffs though , boy oh boy he's money in the bank !
Are you freaking kidding me? He was coming off a 40 goal/90 point season. Can you imagine… can you IMAGINE… what Dubas would give a player coming off a 40 goal 90 point final elc season?
