What does one doing outside of hockey had anything to do with performance in playoffs?
He didn’t perform in playoffs. He might be a great person but he is getting paid to lead the team in playoffs and 0 goals in 18 playoff games is not acceptable.
Don’t go around and say AM struggles too, nobody is saying AM played great bc he didn’t. If anything AM needs to be accountable too.
The difference between the two is that Marner was just really really bad. If you can’t see that, I really don’t know what to say.

It's amazing how matthews is getting a pass from so many while marner gets all the hate.

One is signed for less time and more money. Yet the one signed for less money and more term is the bad guy.

Everyone thinks we are biased towards Canadian players but that is definitely not true.

We don't deserve mitch. I hope he gets traded and torches us every time he plays.

Maybe then those usless fans will start to realize how wrong they are.

One plays defense and throws hits if his offense isn't going. Marner gets stripped at the blueline and throws the puck over the glass because he's afraid of taking a hit.

I guess you're allowed to have your own special definition of losing a series
Don't think that's the only thing: 0 goals in 18 playoff games. Oh and by the way, according to Marner, apparently that stat doesn't count because the play-in series against Columbus doesn't count.

Another angry one! You guys should really calm down before you post. Your SPAM just clogs up the thread.
I mean, we should be angry. We signed an $11M player who simply failed. And not just this year, but the past 3. While our other stars have been up and down, we're looking back 4 years to see Mitch as a playoff contributor and that's with less attention and less expectations.

Also sounds like he's really buckled and continuing to buckle under that pressure. That picture of him crying in the box is pretty telling.

No they aren’t, like I said no peer on this team. Everyone does something, they have to, he goes the extra mile and if you can’t even acknowledge that, that’s on you dude.
My first response was censored by HF Orwell, but suffice to say that you can't even acknowledge that I did credit Marner. Because he is good with charity work has zero bearing on whether he should be extorting a massive, undeserved salary from the team without coming through time and time again.

Having listened to both end of season pressers, I came away impressed with how Matthews conducted himself. He was humble, thorough in explanations, said the right things.

I didn't get the same thing from Marner.

Marner is a great player, you have to be to produce the offense that he does but I think it would be a mistake to view him as a leader or include him as a leader. I don't think the maturity is there.

You are really good at responding on behalf of others and completely missing the point I'm trying to make to them

Sorry, haven't read too many useful points you've made, so I guess I'm taking your posts at face value

I dont understand how people can defend him anymore honestly. Its the same every year. He is great in the regular season and shuts everyone up then when it gets tight and hard checking....he disappears. This isnt a one time thing. Every single year.

Tavares would have gotten roasted as well if he played this season and did the same thing. Nylander as well but he performed this year. Those three never perform. Matthews normally does. He performed for half this series then disappeared the last half and that is completely on him.

Difference is that I have confidence he will rebound as he has shown in the past where he was the only one performing. No idea about tavares or nylander. Marner will suck again next playoffs as he has showed every year

When the London Knights won the Mem cup in Junior everyone assumed Marner was the difference maker but it was actually Tkachuk. He scored the big goals and was the clutch guy putting them over the top. In retrospect it was Marner riding Tkachuk not the other way around.

It was them being awesome togethe

I'd recommend taking a a little extra time to read the posts and also taking a little extra time to review your replies.

There are a couple posters that are obviously very pissed off posting over and over again letting us know that with lots of swear words, name calling etc... All they are doing is spamming up the thread.

I think that I've been posting from a hockey perspective and a developmental perspective. At what point have I shown less class in this thread?

Did Sabres have Hall, a league MVP, and ROR, a playoff MVP, in their roaster before?

He did have the great one year, but that looks to be an outlier rather than the norm...Hall fell off dramatically after that MVP year, and was a ghost in Buffalo. ROR is not the offensive talent that Matthews and Tavares are.

Folks he is giving everything he has in both regular season and playoffs .. to think otherwise is just childish .. it is very very simple why he does not perform in playoffs - don't over think it - it is obvious .. he will be a 100 point regular season guy next year and it will be same result if team is lucky enough to make playoffs (but I don't think we will) .. he needs to lengthen his stride to improve his straight line speed and he needs to be overall much stronger to withstand heavy hits .. neither of which will occur .. best to trade him now for CAP space and improve playoff roster

Amazing how many people here know Marner personally and what he's like.. what his attitude towards things are etc.

Good job with the witch hunt. Try to run one of the best players we've had in years out of town gg.

The Leafs will not win with this immature kid. The difference between Rielly and him are extensive. When asked if he will change anything in his preparation for games he simply said "no". Rielly answered the question with each player has to look in the mirror. The only thing Marner sees is a reflection of a petulent player who doesn't realize how his salary demands have affected his team's ability to put a deep team on the ice.
Well said and notable Fact Rielly has acted like a leader long before he ever got his A also
