The guy is literally the most unselfish, giving Leafs player off the ice. He does everything, for kids, those in need, I’ll never understand how people simply forget the empirical realities. Ask all the people he helps if they agree that he doesn’t give back. We can rip his play, the kid is a great ambassador for this team off the ice and by all accounts has no peer in what he gives back.

What Marner does off the ice in the community has no bearing on his future as someone you want to build a hockey team around.

I wouldn't hold back on Matthews if he deserves vitriol himself. It's true enough that Matthews didn't performance in the game, but he's not the one who actually lost the game. And to Matthews credit, he comes back every season better then he used to be, something that Marner can't attest to himself.
This was for sure Marner’s best regular season, 200 feet of excellence. I don’t understand your comment. Anyways I shouldn’t bring up 34 here, let’s keep the “it’s all on 16” vibe, because why take things in totality.

Generally speaking, most pro hockey players are the same way like this. He's not one of a kind. I will recognize that he does do great things for the less fortunate for sure though.

You said he doesn’t reciprocate what the organization has given to him, I’m showing another facet. Anyways...

Only if regular season performance was enough. You pay a player 11 million so you can try to win the cup, not the President's trophy.

But Dubas keeps praising Marner for his community work though, he must love that to death...you would think contributing to playoff success is secondary...:sarcasm:

Part of being a player with Fans is WANTING to play and perform to that market ... I honestly think Marner has developed a deep hatred for this Market based on peoples perceptions of him ( rightly or wrongly ) from his contract ... performance ... playoff failures , etc ....

I really don't know where the team and player go from here ... If this is true.

He was dog shit in the playoffs, I’m not suggesting otherwise. So was his buddy, who’s paid more and less term.

Matthews didn't lose the game, Marner did. If you're going to trade one of these guys, you gotta think it's going to be Marner.

He deserves criticism, what I’m finding now though is losers projecting their life frustrations onto him, it’s TOO much and I’m not going to pretend there isn’t a lynch mob mentality with some that is incredibly distasteful and says more about them. It’s borderline pathetic.

It's amazing how matthews is getting a pass from so many while marner gets all the hate.

One is signed for less time and more money. Yet the one signed for less money and more term is the bad guy.

Everyone thinks we are biased towards Canadian players but that is definitely not true.

We don't deserve mitch. I hope he gets traded and torches us every time he plays.

Maybe then those usless fans will start to realize how wrong they are.

I just didn’t take his presser as immature, it was a guy under siege being defensive. Perhaps he can handle it better, but also true no matter what he said he would be ripped. Anyways, 34 should thank his lucky stars this kid is shielding his performance, which was equally as underwhelming and disappointing.
34 has been our best player in every playoff except this one and the first boston series. Every year its only him performing out of the big 4. People normally are ripping tavares or nylander or marner this time of the year.

That us why 34 gets a pass for me this year. 88 is getting love even though he hasnt been good in any playoff except this one and maybe the 1st series against capitals. Marner has been crap every year. Same with tavares.

16 deserves everything coming to him because it has been a consistent thing every playoff. Guy hasnt scored a goal in how many games now?

He gets a pass lol. Oh man.

Paraphrasing here but Ferraro on 1050 talking about the PP "Put 88 in a position to shoot and get Marner down at the left goal post, if he's not willing, too bad"

Seems like people know something is up.

Oh! I didn't realize Marner lost the game. How was that exactly?

Turnover that led to 1st goal in game 7. All offense for top line seemed to die on Marner's stick in game 7. The most egregious puck over the glass penalty I have ever witnessed in my life.

"There's something delicate about taking Marner off the top powerplay unit in a way that it isn't with Nylander. Maybe you don't have to take him off, maybe you can just need to move him somewhere else." - Jonas Siegel on the Leaf Report

It's starting to look like there's a lot of smoke.

Yeah....was I wrong? The other three sucked every playoffs except him. This year he wasnt good enough. Thought he started off strong in the series but wasnt good enough in the last 3 games. That is on him. I have confidence in him.

The other 3 are debatable. No idea what I will get from them moving forward. Tavares will try hard but no idea how effective. Nylander is a question mark. Marner is more likely to shrink again given the past 5 years of history.
