Blows my mind that Marner had his childhood dream fall into his lap and then pissed it all away. Imagine bleeding blue and white your whole childhood then choosing to shoulder all the highest expectations and criticism through demanding a ludicrous contract. If he gets moved this off-season he will forever be remembered as one of the architects of the worst Leafs collapse yet.

He’s about to fully test the “crying into millions” line... I really really hope the extra 10 million was worth that for him.

He grew up seeing the effects of the salary cap on player evaluation. He saw entire Clarkson saga.

what a f***ing moron.

It would actually be really stupid to turn down the contract he was offered. It was a mistake for the Leafs management to offer Nylander, Matthews and Marner those contracts. Put yourself in his spot. Here @mozz , I'm going to give you 10mill to play for the Leafs. Is the first thing you say, "but what about the rest of the roster?" or would it be "f***ing rights, where do I sign?"

That doesn't take away from how poor he played in the playoffs, but the whole contract discussion lays more at the feet of management than him.

You have every right to be angry but the leafs dominated the matchup and shot 4%. A lot of that is on Hyman.

You really think management started with that high an offer? After all the holding out during negotiations? Give me a break

Nope. Chris Johnston reported that Marner has at least the same value as Eichel.
That is a BS. Eichel is 50M real $ for 5 years, and Marner is 25M real $ for 4 years after next month. Marner's team goes to the playoff every year and Eichel's team finishes "bottomish" of the league. How can they be the same value?

Hyman is Hyman, he is not on the line to score goals.
Also, a lot of that shooting % had to do with Marner too.
Marner wants the money and to be the leader of the team, he sure didn't show any of that the last two rounds of the playoffs.
I didn't say it at the time but don't you find it interesting that SImmonds was put on the first line with Hyman and AM to start the game b/c Keefe wants the boys to start/engage right away. What does that say about Marner, esp since he also openly admitted he was not engage from the get go in the playins last season.

You don't think Eichel would have more points playing with Tavares or Matthews?

Where does it say that the Leafs had to sign what he asked for? Come on. Give your head a shake. If you think that, then I've got a 99 Honda Accord that I don't want...

The comparables on the market weren't even close to what he signed for, so the Leafs have to be the ones to set the standard with paying players out of their entry level deals?

What adds more to the bitter irony is that by holding out for more money, he turned the public against him and cost himself more money by losing advertisers. I remember two years ago Money Mitch was in about a dozen different ads. Don't think that I've seen him in a single ad this year. And off course if he's dealt to Buffalo or Columbus, bye bye his remaining sponsorship opportunities.

Here's an idea. Lets trade our 24 year old stud 2-way winger for pennies on the dollar. I'm sure that'll make the leafs better.
Maybe. This might sound absurd but Some fans actually wondered if Toronto would’ve won the series if Marner didn’t dress at all. No delay of game.. no game 7 giveaway.

I'm not so sure...Seth Jones is available...even Eichel is available...if you're Dubas, do you stand pat with the same core and hope for a different result next year, and would he trade Marner ahead of Nylander. I'd rather keep Nylander, but I'm not Dubas.

How much have you ever seen Jones play? lol wow

No, that would be stupid...if the Leafs trade Marner, there will be a deal to be done...after July 1st, the real dollar left on his contract only averages around $7.5 million per for the remaining 4 years.
22.5 mill for next four yrs after his bonus on July 1 so just over 5 milly per ....lots of teams will be interested in that.

What, Jones is one of the better Dman in the league.
Also, the trade for Dion was highway robbery by Burke(I think). He literally gave up nothing for Dion.
Dion's next contract with the Leafs sucks but the trade itself was one of the best trades in Leafs history.
Come to think of it, Leafs always made great trades with Flames, maybe another one is coming.
Seth Jones is beyond bad... Guessing you haven't seen him play much

To be fair he would end up being the face of either of those franchises and I imagine would have opportunities to make more money.

Well how about this then, Marner doesn't play but JT and Muzzin do, are our odds better or worse?

Small markets mean less $$ from sponsors. He'll make a lot less advertising Billy Joe's Used Tire Emporium in Buffalo than he did advertising CIBC, Amazon Canada, etc that he did here.
