Nope we will sign him Tre does not have the stones to trade a star winger...or the ability to assess talent and get a fair trade, do we really want Hubredeau and Weeger value for Mitch?

this post is a walking contradiction. You say he doesn't have the stones, yet he traded Matthew Tkachuk lol

Hindsight is 20/20, Tre made the best possible deal he could for Tkachuk. Yeah Huberdeau has faltered but Huberdeau was an 100 point winger and he got a solid defenseman. But the value was pretty spot on, doubt there was a better deal available for a GM who had literally zero leverage in the situation.

Why would a team willing to pay give up anything for additionally for Marner before he enters UFA?
Why would Marner dilute his haul from such a team by insisting they should pay the Leafs first?
Choice, security and fit.

An acquiring team gets him for this year, they may not wait a year to see if he becomes a UFA.

How is it a walking contradiction? (not sure you understand what a walking contradiction is, considering your use of the phrase) He was forced to trade him because Chucky said he wouldn't sign. Marner has said the exact opposite, talk about ignoring the obvious. How are those two situations comparable? How does it take stones to do the easy thing? A bucket of water and an ocean of water are both water but they are not the same, are they?

If the leafs extend Marner I’ve lost all interest and desire to cheer this team. It is so hard to want to cheer them on when they keep repeating the same stuff over and over. You just know they will give him a full NMC as well.

I'm two year ahead of you but the Gilmour and Clark years were so addictive, that drug has lasted about 30 years for me, I'm having a hard time quitting this team. I say I wont watch them but I probably watched 75 games last year.

My understanding Willie dug in at 11.5m last summer and told Tre to call him when they were ready to sign. Tre caved when Willie was on a 120 pace. Had he waited until now he could have got him cheaper or let him walk. The way I see it, Tre panicked or was told to sign him.

Now that Willie is at 11.5mx8, you have to move on from Marner.
I doubt he would have been cheaper if Tre had waited longer, if that was his price from the start.

Letting him walk would have been even worse than if he lets Marner walk next year. Not only is Willy the better player, but if he's gone, Tre pretty much has to sign Mitch, giving Mitch more leverage, and probably upping the price.

I think Tre had this all figured out, and chose the better player (or the lesser of two evils, if you prefer).

I’ve moved to BC three years ago. Catching them on tv is harder. At times last year I just didn’t care to watch. Don’t get me wrong it’s hard and I’ll always keep a close eye on the scores to see how they’re doing but watching them has slowing been decreasing over the years.

If this is true the entire Leafs management including Pelley lied to the entire fanbase to their face & that trust is now irreparably broken. Fans can no longer believe a word that comes out of their mouth.
Iol i never believed a gm since cliff fletcher

The team just brought in a new coach

I wouldn't be shocked if he talked to Marner, liked what he heard and told management he wants to keep him

The guy still is a 100 point selke vote getter who's on both of our first special teams units

Maybe Berube is thinking to himself I can get the best out of him and he will perform for me

He wouldn't be the first new coach to think that

Yup that press conference with talking about change is just lip service then.

Cliff Fletcher also made one of the worst trades in the history of our franchise in his third stint. His third stint was so bad, ruined everything prior for me.
It's insane the ripple effect of that. Alex Steen is going to be the freaking GM of the Blues lol WTF

Are links no longer required on hf? If not, I'd be happy to just make stuff up.

Nothing? I presume Marner and his new team would agree to a new deal prior to the trade going through and then sign it right after.
So what do the leafs get for it?

Agree with most of what you say but no way do I pay the Nylander that played the second half of the season $11.5m. He needs to put up 100 points next year or fans will be calling for his head next April if they bow out early.

Damned if you do situation. The core can’t win and the GM can’t fix it.

If you add all the parts of the organization are they closer to a a top 5 lottery pick or closer to an Eastern Conference championship?

I set the bar low now so they seldom disappoint. If they could not give a shit about losing in round #1, why should I? Run it back and I am watching reruns of the Gilligan's Island rather than reruns of these 5 clowns losing in round #1.

He doesn't have the stones to trade like the Sabres. They would never get a wiff of the cup with Sam Reinhart, Kyle Okposo, Evan Rodrigues, Brandon Montour, and Dmitry Kulikov, Eichel, Kane & O'rielly...to name a few

Tkachuk in fairness wasn't a gutsy move. He indicated he wanted to leave and only in hindsight was it a horrible trade. He either traded him or lost him for nothing.

When has he complained? I have not seen any of our guys complaining. Again just some more bs that you’re projecting tbh.

He didn't complain about Babcock? He didn't use the media to complain about not playing with Matthews? His Dad? His contract, he said he should be paid with Matthews.

How about the shrug offs in interviews post games? Saying we are treated like gods?

Of course you and echo chamber #2 are the only two defending him at this point. The guys a wreck.
