Marner is pretty universally popular with players, coaches, management, and most fans.

That's obviously not true. Toronto would have a higher engagement average, but the topic and approach is still going to drive a lot of variance.

If Marner was universally popular with fans you wouldn’t have a 2 month old thread with 11K posts raging about Marner on HFBoards. Compare and contrast the volume to other star players.

At this point I think you’re just arguing for sport and have no point to make.

It’s hard to shoot from the slot when you cling to the perimeter of the ice like you’re at your first swimming lesson holding on for dear life. So it all goes back to playing with fear.

For a guy who chose a contact sport as his profession he really does play with a lot of self preservation instincts.

I guess the saying is right "Love is blind" because how can anyone that watches the Leafs play not know this as Proven Fact?.

Both our new GM and new Coach love to play a big heavy physical North-South game and Marner plays the complete opposite.

If people think Berube is suddenly going to get Marner to grow a backbone and play fearless then they're going to be very disappointed. IMO

I see him as a guy who wants his cake and to eat it too, most good cupless players wouldnt want to waste their ages 28-35 ...but you're probably right he may fit a losing org better with no pressure to win and little fan/media scrutiny. As long as he gets PAID...
