Marner's production in playoffs in earlier part of his career can be attributed to the following:
- Matthews line getting the most attention defensively
- Leafs having better depth so opposition had to spread out their defensive strategies
- Hyman was on his line
- Bergeron line is not really known for it's "defense"; they trade chances but more often than not convert more than their counterpart
When you make 11 million you kill the depth in the cap world; you have to score more than you did previously because there is no depth supporting you; AND you will face tougher competition defensively because opposition can now zero in on you. Montreal basically just SHUT matthews-marner with strong defensively play.
Marner is not cut out to be a 11 million winger who can produce and play offensively well navigating tight checking systems. He doesn't have the body, IQ, or the will to do it.
When 5'9 Gallaghar out competes you with an injured hand; it just tells you the kind of SUCK marner and his 11 AAV cap hit is to the detriment of this team in the cap world
This is not accurate at all.
For one, marner has one of the highest IQs in the league.
Secondly, marner had 9 points in 7 PO games playing with bozak and jvr. His line was the first line and received the most attention. Matthews had 2 points.
Marner has a history of winning and showing up when the game counts.
The same can not be said for 34.
But of course leafs fans need a new whipping boy and it can't be auston.
