Marner has a history of coming up big in games? Certainly the f*** not in the nhl. I couldn't give a shit about the juniors.

Usually players who do well in junior playoffs do well in nhl playoffs.

Mackinnon crushed qmjhl PO and memorial cup. Hes been dominant in nhl PO as well.

Marner will do the same, I have no doubts. He showed in 2018 vs boston that he can be a big game player. He was the best skater on the ice that series.

But who am I to stop the mitch hate train. Carry on full steam ahead! You'll be eating a healthy does of crow next season though.

I’ve wondered how much affect the team has on the player. Leafs are full of guys that do fly bys where other teams finish every check. Point for example may not be the same player on the Leafs.

I mean, doesn't that have to be it? Why else would Simmonds have been so soft in the playoffs? It has to be a team philosophy to stay out of the box or something. That of course would bring up the point of why bother getting a player like Simmonds in the first place.

Maybe Marner should spend the offseason training with Navy Seals or Special OP Forces.

That might help him to grow a pair come playoff time.

To be fair, nobody's really making excuses for them any longer.

Spanning the entirety of hfboards and the leafs subreddit, dekesfordays is the only person still defending this as far as I can tell.

Two first round exits to "fringe" playoff teams. It's time for significant changes, not bandaids. And almost everybody now see's it.

Yet dubas still holds the gm position somehow.

What does he have on mlse that they won't fire him?

You don't pay for assists in the NHL.

A good GM doesn't sign that Marner deal.

If he wanted that money I assume he wanted out.

Mitch’s contract is the greatest heist in Toronto history.

Imagine basing your opinion off corsi lmao

The leafs have had the better corsi during PO games more than the islanders over the last 3 years.

Yet the islanders have over double the wins.

Btw, keefe is the one who sets the lines.

I hope you're ready to eat a massive amount of crow next year.

Like someone else had mentioned -what was the fear here? That he sits out for a bit? Let him. Offer sheets ?- go for it. MM wanted to play here, that we know, and we know his camps' negotiation tactics were ridiculous with Dregs as their puppet. But he got everything he wanted including the A

Points > goals.

If marner has 3 points but ovy has 2 goals, which player helped their team win more?

At time of signing, matthews had a career high of 63 points. Marner had 94.

Mitch was also our best playoff producer.

Mitch only got his deal because dubas backed the brings truck up for auston. At time of signing, mitch had proven more.

Matthews wanted 13+ on an 8 year deal. Thats more than mcdavid. I guess he wanted out too?

If you're upset, take it up with dubas and matthews.

Rddle me this. Which teams would take Marner for Ranta, Aho, Point, Barzal, Pasta, Draisaitl, Nylander, Caufield, Jones, Eichel, Connor, Boeser, Tkachuk. Pretty much tells you how overpaid Marner is.

Now ask yourself which teams would trade Matthews for the same players. Pretty much tells you Matthews is not Marner's comparable.
Just to be clear.
A matthews contract scaled up to a like term would be 12.35MM x 6 years
That is a difference of 1.45MM from Marner (about 113% of Marners total salary)
How many more millions do you want to tack on to that?

Because they’re all like kids in the candy store, and Dubas is the “candy”.
He’s young and uses all these “advanced stats”, and he’s “ahead of the curve”. You will win by drafting small, skilled players. You can trade for all the other types of players. That’s why we only have 6 picks in the next 2 drafts, yet still have not made it out of the 1st round. smh

I'm fairly certain most gms would trade the majority of those players for marner. Marner has been playing at 90+ point pace for 3 years now. Only 2-3 of the players you listed have ever paced for 90+ points. Only issue is cap but thats on dubas.

At time of signing, matthews had a career high of 63 points. Marner had 94. Marner was also our best playoff producer and had already made a couple players have their best season statistically.

The only reason mitch is so overpaid is because of the contract dubas gave auston. To this day I have no idea what dubas was doing with that negotiation.

He gave matthews all the money, short term, front loaded and tons of signing bonuses. Matthews literally got everything and conceded nothing. Just a terrible contract that paved the way for mitch.

I honestly believe even if you took the contract out of the equation as a secondary reference only, the Leafs would be hard pressed to trade Marner straight up for some of the usual comparable candidates many of which you mentioned above like Ranta, Aho, Point, Barzal, Pasta, Connor etc. even if he were on the Draisaitl contract ($8.5 mil X 8).

That would be doubly true if you weighted playoff performance and contribution more heavily than regular season, which I'm sure many teams do, because after all your goal is to win the Stanley Cup, not pole up regular season points, and then disappear come playoff time.

Case in "Brayden" Point: Who has 25 playoff goals in just these last 2 playoffs 2020 & 21 while Marner has 5 goals over 5 playoff seasons/series. That alone should convince anyone, then if you factor in Point makes $6.75 mil compared to Marner's $10.9 and is over $4 mil AAV cheaper against the Cap, that just solidifies how bad this situation is.

I personally feel the reason the Leafs management is sticking to their guns on keeping the core 4 together, because they have no choice. If they were to trade one it would be Marner, and at present they wouldn't get fair market value in trade, and that contract is a butt ugly boat anchor that not a lot of teams would touch with a 10 foot pole. IMO

Mainly TANNENBAUM is the sports guy .it's said he listens to some former leaf players tie domi for 1
I'd say the msle board is embarrassed.id love Steve Simmons to interview Tannenbaum

Kane hasnt done much since he signed his contract. In fact, Marner has far surpassed Kanes first 2 rfa years performance.
Kane won Cups by his second RFA years. Kane is also a better player than Marner now.

Like I said before, admitting Marner is not as good as player X doesn’t mean Marner sucks, it just means he is not as good as that said player.

You realize that Kane is on his second last year and that Marners contract is set for future production of a player not yet in his prime right?
Kanes first rfa year was 66 points in 82 games
Kanes second year was 55 in 47. Where was he better?
