Why are people against the idea of trading Marner?
What if the return package is Mack? Or the players coming back is Aho.
I think if Marner or Willie or even AM is traded, Leafs will be getting a great player or two in return. Now would the Leafs win the Cup bc of that, not sure but the current team ain’t winning the Cup either.
Trade any or all of them if it makes the team better. I have no allegiance to a single player on this roster.

I wouldn't deal Spezza, as he's taken 3 consecutive discounted deals. Besides that despite liking guys on this team, anyone can be moved simply due to being unlikable when it comes to contract dealings

He is saying Murray x2 but IIRC a stiff started the playoffs for the Pens in 2017, Fleury carried the mail when he returned from injury and Murray finished it off after Fleury was lit up.

Soup may be enough but I am not seeing any SC goalies giving up that weak game #7 first goal or swimming for his life only to see the puck tapped in behind him. Yeah let's wait to see who replaces Andy.

He'd have to be. The only way this roster gets deep is if their goalie is essentially a brick wall.

Not sure what you're confused about. Murray won two, and Binnington won one, as their team's #1 goalie, while making 900k or less. That's three out of the last 5 cups.
So we're adding "expected cap" to "expected goals" and "expected wins" in our list of rationalizations as to why this team is failing to live up to it's "expected results"?
What are you even talking about? Nothing you said has anything to do with anything I said. Somebody asked me a simple question about what the cap was projected to be this past year prior to the pandemic, and I provided an answer.

Sure ok.....we'll keep the 38 year old ex-Sen because he's the one guy that seems to really care about the team. ;)

Marner is our Ben Simmons, we ain't going anywhere until he learns to shoot.

Leafs are forever waiting for Simmons and Embiid to take the next step in the playoffs...ie. Matthews and Marner.

Trust the process.

Wasn't Mitch on JTs wing for most of his early playoff career? Maybe getting away from shut down lines helped him flourish? Not saying that is 100% the issue, but it may be a contributing factor.

Marner's production in playoffs in earlier part of his career can be attributed to the following:

  • Matthews line getting the most attention defensively
  • Leafs having better depth so opposition had to spread out their defensive strategies
  • Hyman was on his line
  • Bergeron line is not really known for it's "defense"; they trade chances but more often than not convert more than their counterpart

When you make 11 million you kill the depth in the cap world; you have to score more than you did previously because there is no depth supporting you; AND you will face tougher competition defensively because opposition can now zero in on you. Montreal basically just SHUT matthews-marner with strong defensively play.

Marner is not cut out to be a 11 million winger who can produce and play offensively well navigating tight checking systems. He doesn't have the body, IQ, or the will to do it.

When 5'9 Gallaghar out competes you with an injured hand; it just tells you the kind of SUCK marner and his 11 AAV cap hit is to the detriment of this team in the cap world

An 11 million playmaker should expect to have players that shoot at greater than 3.85% on 26 shots

Do people think it’s totally random that Matthews shooting % goes in the trash every playoffs? We need a coach who gets his stars away from shutdown lines and actually uses last change

Marner 10th in Selke voting.

Would probably have been 5th - 7th if he played for a less hated team.

I'm watching a lot of Patrick Kane highlights...they gotta show some film to Marner this off-season.

Have him work on his shot, get him around left face off circle and work on his speed.

Kane is so cut throat. So many plays I watch where Kane just finishes that I think Marner would deke, pass or take it behind the net whereas Kane just goes in for the kill.

Could we get proper value for him, especially if we're actively shopping him? Not so sure.
