I'd say comparing series to series contributions is more logical.
It's more like changing the discussion because it's impossible to justify your original statement. Even comparing series to series contributions doesn't come close to justifying the idea that Point vs. Marner in those series was the difference of 2 series wins vs. none.
Marner has 5 goals in 32 games
This is like judging Ovechkin by his playoff assists.
Always a lot easier to do with no pressure.
It's pretty ridiculous to suggest he had no pressure, and again, you're missing the point of the post you quoted.

My rage on Marner has finally subsided so I can post in this thread.

He is still an absolute top tier player and I still believe he has what it takes to perform in the playoffs. He has still put up decent point totals before.

This year he looked like he was trying to do way too much and was compensating for Hyman being an absolute anchor on that line. How many grade A chances Hyman miss? I understand Hyman was still injured, but that made it look like they were down a man on every shift.

He definitely needs to make quicker decisions though, some times you just got to shoot the puck instead of looking for the perfect tap in.

It is frustrating on Marner. He could put up 140 points next season, and it really wouldn't matter. He has had, one(?) good playoffs I would say off the top of my head.

At least with Matthews you know this playoffs was kind of an off one for him, he has proven multiple times he can elevate his game. Marner, he just hasn't. I hope for the Leafs sake he can somehow get it done in the playoffs, assuming they get there next year, because he isn't getting traded for at least another year.

What point exactly -- that the hill you're willing to die on is that Marner had 17 points in his first 17 playoff games but Point "only" had 16? Really?
The point is the difference between those series wins/losses during that sample was not a difference between Point/Marner, as you falsely claimed.

I've looked at quite a bit of context, including what you've left out.

Sounds like a whole lot of years of a competitive team not winning the cup. Leafs would be destroyed for that.

The only similarity between Tampa and Toronto is we both wear the same colours. Other than that, there isn’t really any similarity in terms of playoff record, team construction or drafting record.

It's already been pointed out that Marner had 17 points in his first 17 playoff games.

There is no significance to that fact. Brayden Point has more goals tonight than Marner has has since 2019 in the playoffs.

He might next year.

Welcome back.

Honestly, give it a rest. Point is a much better player than Marner at this point, but that’s not saying Marner sucks. I would even say Point as the best player in the league in this playoffs. Does that means Kuch, Stamkos, Barzal, Mack and others suck? Hell no, it’s just mean Point is at a higher level than them.

You can't be watching Tampa and think Point is better than Kucherov. Kucherov carries their offense. Point is elite but without kucheorv he had 48 in 56 in the regular season and was sub ppg with 16 in 17 in 2018 playoffs.

Tampa without Kucherov would have been out in the 1st round to the Panthers.

Kucherov is their best offensive player probably ever. He's just an incredible offensive talent. Makes so many plays and is a dual offensive threat allowing for point to get good looks on his shots.

I just like Point better.
I think Kuch got more raw talents and Point just plays his heart out.
Both are great and they are the engine for TB.

I watched the Tampa islander game last night.I was amazed how intense those teams are, how much the hound the puck, how relentless the are and how hard they play. Looking back to our failed playoffs it makes you realize what a soft fragile gutless team Dubas has built,
With out massive changes we are screwed for years to come.
It is simply pathetic how we play

Point is a good player but Marner on Tampa would rip an opposing teams face off.
