Was he not 11 million dollar good or was he not 7 million dollar good? Nylander for some reason seems to have the same expectations on his shoulder as Marner, Tavares and Matthews. He outperformed Marner and Matthews last postseason and matched them this postseason, yet people trash him. I've never been the hugest Nylander fan, but our core is very lucky to have him or else they'd get much more scrutiny. His production takes a load off of them.
That's fair. I just find he disappears... a LOT.

He was really close to getting the Leafs a 1-0 lead but missed on the short side. In some alternate universe that would have gone in and he'd be well on his way to learning how to win. Not bad throughout the series but I think he still fights with nerves on the biggest stage and isn't really a killer.

No show again when it's time to get the series clinching W. Saw a lot of patterns from past elimination games.

I knew he was off for good this game when he kept swinging the puck to his forehand with no puck protection on the PP even though Tampa had sticks waiting for it. When Marner isn't 2 steps ahead of the play anymore you know something is wrong.

25 minutes and NO SHOTS. always over passing and over skating. so stupid.

smarten up mitch

I think the last 5 games weren't great for Marner. Good games 1 and 2 though well done

More disappointed in Bunting and Kerfoot myself, not because they are paid to carry the club but this is how teams succeed in the post season. MM has had several good games and tonight would have been the time when secondary should step up the way it did for Tampa.

What the??? Bunting was hurt and makes less than a million.... come on haha!

O shots aint ok. I know he aint a sniper but he is great at rebound passes. And one or two shots(or shot passes) from him tonight might have been the difference.

How anyone can say Marner had a good game 7 is insane. He spent the entire game trying to skate and stickhandle through 2-3 players at once while giving the puck up every time. Tried to make seem passes that were not available. Passing up 2-1 shots for passes when they are covered. 1 shot can make the difference and he had 0.

I think Marner kind of wilted in the big moment as well, but it's not like the Leafs were beat by red hot Kucherov, Stamkos scoring a hat trick either. Sometimes you need a nobody to step up and be the random hero when it gets to a Game 7 coin flip and if and when this group ever gets over the hump it's likely not going to look like Marner or Matthews going off for points night. Not how playoffs often works.

he played a good series. Was arguably our most dangerous forward.
nah that honor goes to matthews and nylander again. Nylander clinches top 2 for games 4.5 to 6. Especially 6, won the series for us with JT, but Refs had other plans.

That slap pass in game 5 from Marner was amazing though but his elimination game performances drop him to either 3rd or 4th best forward. Tavares did a lot of "technical" work all series that is going uncredited and unnoticed, so I think makes a legitimate case for the 3rd spot.

Sifting through the easy pot shots, I loved his motor and compete, he was everywhere and one of our best performers, it showed maturity and development, lots to like. His best season, arguably the smartest player in the game, my main critique, keep shooting Mitch, sometimes a puck to the net is as effective as a tape to tape work of art.

I’m not dumping on that effort, this isn’t last year.

Okay back to people nobody listens to in their “lives”….

Marner was much better this series. Extremely devastating that they came up short again. Can't imagine how the players feel this time considering they played well.

I have never once seen Marner as an elite player.
A good player, somebody you'd like paired with an actual elite player.

But on his own, I don't rate his talents that high. He has no killer instinct, he's just somebody you stick on a line to make the other players have a better chance of scoring.

In do or die games, he is 10000000% a ghost. Name ONE thing he has done, to earn his overpriced contract.

They won two cups in a row. Not showing up isn't a pattern for them (not showing up is wrong term to use, let's stick to not being their best). They deserve someone else stepping up now.

Marner is on an unfortunate streak of dropping below his best in elimination games. Regardless if you want to be positive or negative, that's the objective fact he can't escape as your baseline.

I don't see how anyone can scapegoat the top 4 guys again. Them and Rielly scored 15 of the teams 24 goals in this series. Take away Rielly and its 4 guys that did half of the scoring.

Disappointing result but the all earned a summer where the fans are calling them to be traded as cap dumps.

Depth got roasted last night where have you been.

Nobody is really trashing the big 4. Marner had a good series it just sucks his play dropped in the clinchers again, that's all. I mean, are you going to say it's great he fell off a bit in the last 2 games which may have contributed to not getting that extra goal?

*Okay I am wrong there are emotional posts wanting to blow it up but I filter out the emotional from the calm

I mean that's what they're supposed to do? They demanded fifty pct of the cap.

2021-22 Marner recorded 2-6-8 points in 7 games which was a big improvement on his past 3 playoff years, but not his best which was 2017-18 in 7 games where he recorded 2-7-9 points.

2 in last 4 and ZERO shots in game 7. No goals after game 2.

The only magic mitch I saw after game 3 was the slap pass in game 5. Other than that he was back to 20/21 form with the over stick handling, not making the simple play and someone said it looks like edge work practice drills. I see what they mean now.

Hot amazing start, average middle boosted by the slap pass, horrible ending. Game 6 OT to all of game 7 is one to forget for him. Game 6 as a whole was a step below his "good" as well.

He retires a Leaf if I have my way but he deserves criticism for the latter part of the series. Half of Tampas team didn't show up they were ready to be picked apart by an elite player like Marner. So what happened? Is the gassed theories right? Take him off the PK? Does he actually get in his head? Wtf is going on.
