Mitch Marner discussion continues

Then we can't really know if he's stepped back or not since there hasn't been anything for him to do. We'll see when it's time to negotiate his next contract I guess, hopefully he'll be somewhere else by then and we won't care anymore.

For me and I suspect most of us, playoff performance is so much more important though. If you shine during the regular season and fade away in the playoffs then your regular season performance becomes meaningless. For a prime example of what I'm talking about, see money Mitch.

Pump up your boy? Last time I checked he was on the Leafs, if you are fan of the Leafs he should be a guy we root for. I'm sorry I thought this was a forum for Leaf FANS ... my mistake.. carry on bashing a 24 year old boy who scored 1.22 points per game last season...

Awww poor Mitch, demanding all that money and now taking heat for it. A 24 year old "boy" as you say.

The 1.22 points - it means dick if you can't get it done in the playoffs. Or if you can't score a single goal on the PP all year long

I sure hope all you pseudo Leaf fans who are calling Mitch selfish, a daddys boy, hoping he is gone before next season, come back here next playoffs to eat some crow.

I'm guessing from your butthurt response, you see yourself in my comments. Honest self reflection is the first step in analyzing things at a higher level.

Keep at it, one day you might become a real Leaf fan and not just a pseudo fake fan.

Anderson, Rielly, Kerfoot, Mikeyev, Engvall are all buying Mitch steak dinners next year... how ONE guy can determine the fate of a team is a Leafy phenomenon only our pseudo fans can rationalize.

Has there ever been a year where only one name is engraved on a Stanley Cup? I thought hockey was a team sport... I guess I was wrong... The Toronto Maple Mitches...

McDavid scores a lot in the regular season = McJesus
Marner scores a lot in the regular season = What a spoiled brat...

Maybe if you start up the time machine and teleport Gary Roberts as his left winger and Doug Gilmour as his centre he'll have a couple line mates not afraid to go into the dirty areas where Mitch avoids. Mitch would have to take a pay cut though to have a couple guys like that on his line.

That greener grass is not grown by one player.
I know that you have raised a number of points (some of which I agree with) regarding the cause of the Leafs failure. The insistence of feeding the mob with respect to one of the better players on the team as the major contributor of the loss is not a hard one to poke hole through.
Why don't you just admit that the heuristic used to vilify Marner is singularly the one of social proof. The mob says this, so you must be right.

There have been a number of posters here that use ad hominems in an attempt to attack the substance of what I say. The deflection you use is a Post Hoc Fallacy and False Dichotomy.

Grass is always greener applying to a person pivoted to a team at the cup gives an impression that the person is responsible for not getting there.
Totally obvious but at the bottom of this mess is social proof from the mob.

It touches on something that was not raised yet. Many of the people attacking the kid have publicly stated how much better Stone was to Marner (awhile back) until Stone was put in the light of their Marner attacks. Of course they ran for cover and said nothing more of it.
