Then we can't really know if he's stepped back or not since there hasn't been anything for him to do. We'll see when it's time to negotiate his next contract I guess, hopefully he'll be somewhere else by then and we won't care anymore.
It's not one or the other.
Like Babcock said, you just have to play enough for your stars to get going.
For me and I suspect most of us, playoff performance is so much more important though. If you shine during the regular season and fade away in the playoffs then your regular season performance becomes meaningless. For a prime example of what I'm talking about, see money Mitch.
