I Guess I'll be the one. Marner is not going to get us much with that contract. He at most was worth 2million more than what Nylander should have got which is 5.75 to 6 million.....so Mitch 7.75 to 8 million. and even that's rich. Matthews, 10 million would have been my max at max term.

Dubas the rookie GM got taken big time by experienced agents.

So, I know it's going to be unpopular...shop Auston Matthews. We all know he's leaving so why keep him?

In hindsight JT's contract really handcuffed us. I don't think Matthews or Marners ask would have been as high.
No

The way the expansion drafts work, sure you dont get a franchise player but your worst player is probably 10 to 12 best on most teams. Teams can only protect what 10 players. So ofcourse you end up with a good team.
I don’t see how any teams in the League can’t trade for 10-12 best players on the other teams.

You gotta give credits to the pro scouting and coaches of Vegas for finding players and coaching them to play at their max.

If Marners elite he needs to be making Mikheyev and Engvall into 45 point players

I'll take them as a line with those two being 45 point guys and Marner 85ish.

Matthews plays with Robertson+ some UFA LW and does the same being a 85 point guy.

Time for these two to stop bitching so much and prove they can drive their own lines with depth players
Which is what Babcock wanted. I think he saw Mitchie for what he was. This team has now become the inmates running the asylum. Marner & Matthews believe they are beyond reproach and cannot and should not be held accountable. There is a cancer in the room, and it might be two tumors.

I may be in the minority but would rather trade Matthews now but that will never happen. His value has to be significantly higher than Marner’s and I expect he’s gone at the end of his contract anyways. I was so disgusted my Marner’s playoff performance but his contract is so preposterous that there’s no way he could be traded now, just gotta keep him and hope he turns it around.

the problem is the 3 amigos are best friends, mlse should not tolerate that. shan/dubas/keefe.

Best friends and probably learned too much from step-dad Marleau... who left San Jose for cash, has never won a cup and hardly ever is injured because he plays a safe, cautious style.

I'll never understand why he was chosen as mentor. Should have stuck with Martin and uncle leo (Komarov) for less money too.

You want a late 30's, career loser, who had his captaincy stript, eventually left the team who drafted him for money and is on a record breaking iron man and games played pace.... you want this guy to mentor your impressionable building blocks? Well seems like he did a great job.

I hope Marner is watching Kucherov, a far better player than Marner, and taking notes. But Marner already said he's changing nothing in his preparation for next season so who knows, probably not even watching.
I actually do wonder if they are watching. You'd like to think they are so they can see the intensity of these kind of games/series and how big ticket players perform when it matters, but I somehow doubt that they are.

How can any real leaf fan cheer for this selfish of a player after that contract negotiations?! Let alone after these last 3 playoff series

I didn't really like him to begin with... but yea, after the contract fiasco... hate is a strong word... but I'll go with it. My least liked Leaf in the past 10 years maybe, don't like the way he plays, don't like his contract, don't like his aura.

I know what you mean. Great player, but I feel like he just sort of expects himself to be the saviour because he's from Toronto. Almost like he thinks he's Neo or something - right place, right time type thing, and doesn't actually need to get dirty.

The contract shit just reaffirmed that. His joke of a video after he signed the contract where he sat on a rooftop and read off a script about how much he loves Toronto in his monotone voice just irked me. I still remember him posting wakeboarding videos while he wasn't signing and fans were freaking out. Like just totally unaware of public perception of him at the time.
