If Marners elite he needs to be making Mikheyev and Engvall into 45 point players

I'll take them as a line with those two being 45 point guys and Marner 85ish.

Matthews plays with Robertson+ some UFA LW and does the same being a 85 point guy.

Time for these two to stop bitching so much and prove they can drive their own lines with depth players

Agreed.

If the cap allocation necessitates less expensive players to round out the roster, then maximize their potential by giving them some high priced help.

It's bad enough we have half the cap allocated to 4 forwards, but it's compounded by the fact that Keefe thinks each one of them seemingly need one of the others in order to be effective.

Nylander lost JT, he was more than fine, but the coach couldn't even clue in to that.

Keefe has no answers.

Seattle makes no sense as the only thing they would have to trade would be castoffs and draft picks. I could see Arizona working out. They would love Mitch's $6.25 real dollar salary. Chychrun would be a nice get for the Leafs. It would be hilarious to send Marner to Auston's home team.

If they do trade Marner I’d be surprised if the return is a bunch of expansion cast offs.

The defensemen likely to be available are going to be really good. Colorado likely exposed Devon Toews. Minnesota likely exposes Matt Dumba. Carolina likely exposes Brady Skjei. Erik Cernal from Tampa Bay, Scott Mayfield from New York, Calvin de Haan from Chicago, Connor Clifton from Boston, Kevin Shattenkirk, Vince Dunn, maybe even Mark Giordano.

They can acquire a lot of trade capital.

They'll probably go further than the Leafs in their first year

Fair but it worked out and Nylander is the least of our problems. We have a coach who can’t utilize top end talent, a GM who can’t play hockey and an 11M winger who can’t go in corners

You either sit Marner for being scared or you drop him down against lower competition snd get him going. #FireKeefe

Yup Keefe played an enormous roll in losing this series. Seriously he had some of the worst brain dead adjustments I've ever seen.

1. Not breaking up Marner and Matthews is his gravest mistake. This guy just doesn't get it. Last year in game 5 he made a "super line of JT - Matthews - Marner and we got shut out. This series after multiple games of no production this tool still kept them together. Stop over playing the top line in the regular season and for goodness sakes learn how to split the two up. If they don't like it tell them to shut up.

2. Our Second line was a huge bright spot with Gally, Kirf, and Willy. Instead of destroying our most consistent line why don't you put Foligno on our most disappointing line? That makes too much sense to be a Keefe move, he's got to go for the big brain moves instead.

3. Sandin in for Dermott after he played a fine game and we had a stranglehold on the series. Just..... Why?

4. Thornton on the PP. Do I need to say more?

Just terrible coaching. Makes me want to puke.

Why on earth would an expansion team trade the high picks and best players they can get their hands on for Mitch Marner.

It’s like trading 2 1sts for Kessel with nothing else.

Keefe wanted the super best friends duo to figure it out together. And the Foligno acquisition needed to look adequate at all costs so it doesn't look like Dubie made a shit trade.

My only question is if Keefe is really that dumb of a coach or just how big of a puppet he is of Dubas..

Im not saying they will but weren't most people saying the same about Vegas? Crazy but I can almost see a world where leafs miss the playoffs and Seattle makes it out of the first round.

Yeah only in Bettman's world. I am hoping GMs are smarter this time around and it will take Seattle a few years to make the playoffs.

What Vegas had done over the past few seasons is a huge smack to the face to all the GMs and Presidents that kept saying, we need patience, 5 years plan.....For the past 5 years, this is what happened to Vegas during the playoffs, preparing for expansion draft, Cup Finals, 1st round exit, Conf., Finals, and Conf., Finals. Still, no GMs or Presidents are building the teams like Vegas.

If they take on that cap hit without sending much back, the cost won't be as high as you think. Took a 1st to rid us of Marleau's 6.5m cap hit. What ever Marner alone is worth subtract 2 firsts (for 11m cap hit) and viola that is the cost for Seattle to take Mitch, his Dad and the ugly cap hit. The price for Mitch signing an OS was 4 1sts, subtract 2 1sts for the cap hit and it would take 2 firsts IMO.

Seattle could be our path out of cap hell.

I am actually more curious to see who will be available in the expansion draft. Think trading futures for Marner is not a good idea, rather have players coming in and contributing right away.

You have $11m in cap space to sign as many UFAs as you can/want (11m might get you Goodrow, Kuraly, Hyman or Coleman, and Drieger) and you have 2 high picks to stock the farm. Our two best prospects are 2nd rounders. If we hit on the two 1sts, we should be able to ice a much better team.

Edit: It would be Goodrow, Kuraly, Hyman or Coleman, Drieger and 2 firsts for Marner. Sounds too good to be true so it probably is. LOL.

I wish I could like this 1000x

don’t get me started on the CBJ series. Suprise C duty for Nylander after a 6 month layoff LOL

Ottawa would also love his salary and they have better assets to trade like Stutzle, Sanderson, Tkachuk

Kinda like Vegas did……..and every year since
The way the expansion drafts work, sure you dont get a franchise player but your worst player is probably 10 to 12 best on most teams. Teams can only protect what 10 players. So ofcourse you end up with a good team.

I understand how it worked but it still pisses me off that such a new team is so much better the the Leafs. It just goes to show that you don’t need 3 - 11 million dollar players to win a round
