Cuz he's a top 3 player in the world lol.

If Marner was shopped every team lacking super star talent in the league would inquire. (and that's a lot of teams). Just like teams are in on Jack Eichel who has a broken neck.

I don't think so. Health issues and the fact everyone knows Eichel wants out are the equalizer. I believe the surgery is no a huge risk, NFL quarterbacks get these things worked on and return to 100% but its there and it puts a drag on his trade value.. I don't see Kyle making a Marner deal in any case, there is nothing that suggests that would be on the table. Tough to succeed with an AHL powerplay and he would have been a different player if used for 19:00 and change during the regular season. I am just not sure Mitch will take the next step under Keefe but I think he is a Leaf as long as Dubas is.

Should get able to pull in Rantanen and Makar. Aho,Slavin,Svechnikov.

These are some good starts.

I think what people are overlooking here is that the fans who want to trade Marner acknowledge he's a good player. We just don't have the right mix here. That and I think he'll inevitably be run out of town here cuz he was never going to.live up to that contract

He is a decent regular season player but he is far from good in the playoffs

One of the wingers need to go for depth cap balance and changing the instinct/dynamic of the core. It needs a Marchand type guy.

Dubas by the very nature of his contracts, has made the most likely candidate Marner.
3rd double digit salary, great playmaker but poor goal scorer. Great regular season but lacks the killer for playoffs. Goals become a premium and you need to get more involved/dirty.

Ordinarily, Leafs would have to add a lot.

But given:
- Eichel's injury
- Eichel demanding the trade, which generally puts the team trading him in a less favorable position
- Marner's real dollar cap hit being low
- Quality of other offers (which we don't know, but idk if any of them would include a piece as good as Marner)

I think it's a much closer one-for-one situation.

It comes down to numbers.
There is no teams with a 10mil plus players making it past the 2nd round till the Habs.
The fact that two of these 10mil plus players need to play together is not good. If they can each play on three different lines and make players that are making under 2mil into 3-4mil players, then it might work.
Lastly, can’t move JT and AM is the big goal scoring C, that just leaves Marner.
Even if they trade Willie, the results will most likely be the same and Marner will be the next to go bc JT and AM are not going anywhere unless the return is also a big goal scoring C.

I never claimed he was wrong. I obviously disagree, but none of us actually know, so we can believe what we want.

McDavid, Drai, Mackinnon, Kucherov, Matthews,Rantanen, Point, Marchand, Panarin, Barkov

Which of these players is Mitch better than? I haven't even included players such as Aho, Kane, or Crosby yet

Edit: Didn't realize he meant Matthews

Time to reconfigure the team. Marner could fetch us a few good picks. Or 2 decent players and/or we could use his cap to get two 5 million dollar players.

Come on now, "decent regular season player"? Finishing 4th in the league in points this past season, isn't "decent", its pretty damn good. In the last 3 seasons, Marner ranks 8th in total points. He's ahead of Barkov, Aho , Point, Ovechkin , Stamkos and a lot of other very good players. Does that mean he's better than they are? Of course not, but the numbers are the numbers. I understand that we're all (rightfully) mad at Marner, but let's not start lying about his talents. Marner is a very good player who hasn't put it completely together yet, hopefully he can this season

A player that hasn’t figured it out after 5 years in the playoffs is nothing more then a decent regular season player.
Stating what I think is a decent regular season player is my opinion……you don’t have to agree with it but don’t say I’m lying……it’s an opinion
