The core of this team looks complacent and accepting of it's fait far to often

Almost like children that have had everything gifted to them so they don't value the hard work and the emotional toll it takes to fight for something like playoff success

They are just to comfortable, they need a fire lit under their asses

I would keep the core together but I certainly wouldn't have told them that during the end of season presser, I'd have been "exploring all available options"
They look the exact opposite of comfortable to me. They look nervous and scared, specifically Marner. You could throw confused in there too.

Yes he can .. he is best passer in league bar none at regular season speed .. but nowhere near best passer at playoff speed unless he is on da 3rd line playing against weaker competition
.... he was fifth when NHLPA voted - behind Kane, Backstrom, McDavid, Draisaitl.

Was listening to the Russ Courtnall podcast a little while back and he mentioned that John Brophy bag skated the 1988 team on the day of Game 7 vs Detroit. Was interesting to hear Courtnall and Clark reminisce that the core they had back then was more talented than the 90s Burns/Fletcher teams but they pulled the plug too early before that group could mature.

I believe Gord Stellick was the GM then, the original boy wonder. Maybe Shanahan and co. are trying to avoid making the mistake of blowing it up too soon.
Leafs lost that '88 series in six games. The '87 loss vs Detroit went seven.

Those teams had some talent, but probably no better than league average overall. They also had to deal with constant player, GM and coaching turnover. Stellick was GM from April 1988 until August 1989, and quit because of Ballard. Brophy was one in a long line of bad hires. Whoever sweet-talked Ballard the best got hired.

Tbh, I think the Leafs would have to add significantly on Marner for Eichel. You gotta think, do the Buffalo sabres want to get dunked on by a divisional rival for five years, with their failed franchise player dominating on the third line behind Tavares and Matthews? You think Buffalo wants a soft prima Donna winger who will have nobody to pass to? I don't think Buffalo would when want Marner for Reinhart. I'm serious.

No they are comfortable, that's why they never learn from past experience

Being uncomfortable forces you to take a good long look at yourself and learn from past experience to be better

Sometimes. Or sometimes you shut down...like they did under Babcock.

Look, I'm not saying I agree with coddling them, but I don't think this is a team that looks comfortable.

Lots of Paul marner burner accounts working overtime lately
That would help me makes sense of replies by said poster. I can't quite put my finger on it but every single post by said poster doesn't sit right. The responses don't feel genuine or rational to me. Is it just arguing for the sake of arguing, constantly taking the opposite side of the dialouge, by playing devils advocate or its something else like you said...a relative, a friend of Mitch, leafs pr?....I don't know but there's something off. My spidey senses sense something is amiss.

Montreal doesn't have a pacifist culture, therefore you will not see guys checking out of rough games saying "It's not my thing" and staying on the perimeter.

This is the problem with this team IMO. We have this elitist culture that we are so skilled we don't ever have to get our hands dirty to win. It's like its beneath them to be like NYI or the Habs. Well, those to teams are doing pretty well right now I would say.

Let's be honest, the NHL playoffs are an eight week endurance test, where every game is a battle.
So how does a GM whose personal style is about inclusion, diversity, fairness and genuine caring, instill a win at all costs, take no prisoners philosophy into his on ice product?
Can it be done?

In other words "Feelz over Realz" for Dubas. I think it comes from the very top. Shanny seems to be almost embarrassed by the type of player he was when he discusses how unimportant it is in today's game. Dubas probably agrees because he has small man syndrome and desperately wants to win with anything other than size and strength to prove the little guy can do it.

1 goal scored against 5x5 in game 7 and a soft one at that. That is it...for the whole series.
I dont know what drugs you are smoking but in took 19 periods before montreal could score on that line and it was an ugly one on the part of cambell.
Im talking about the entire season. 5v5 mitch was ass. And if u subtract the goals against william and for in the playoffs he comes up ahead of shitty mitch.

Not even moving forward. We were done with the excuses before the Habs series. This was the no more excuses series. Marner did not do the job. He must go.

Don't even give him a courtesy call. Let him find out about it when he's posting his vacation pics on IG.
This sums it up nicely

I think you are both right.

That is an extremely dumb comment.
A team with no talent on its roster doesn’t want a talented winger for their run of the mill second line winger….. makes sense.
