He bit off more than he could chew and that was when he realized. Expectations and perception change real quick when you're asking to be paid like a top 5 player.
In the video he says "I wouldn't have it any other way" when talking about always beiing under the microscope in Toronto... to "I have deleted all social media".

You don’t banish Nylander because Marner screwed up. Doesn’t make sense from a salary cap savings, doesn’t make sense from an accountability point of view, doesn’t make sense on the ice.

Moving forward, no one cares that Marner blocked two shots against Boston and scored 9 points in a series once upon a time. Do the job or don’t.

Not even moving forward. We were done with the excuses before the Habs series. This was the no more excuses series. Marner did not do the job. He must go.

Don't even give him a courtesy call. Let him find out about it when he's posting his vacation pics on IG.

It's a shame Anchorage does not have a team. Maybe Paul can run for Mayor there.

Mitch fails to score and his team gets blown out in elimination and his dad tells him he only showed up in the third, should hit guys to make his presence known and “was that just another game?”

Maybe he should coach ?

Which is where I said he should play.

PK and line 3.
Yes you are right he would have been fine there and likely would have produced some .. very poor coaching from Keefer .. that was most disappointing thing for me .. bad decision on Sandin .. bad decision not to bench Jumbo .. bad decision not to unite Matty Kerfoot and Willy to get at least 1 line producing .. even without JT and Muzzy we should have figured out a way to advance .. with a 3-1 lead you can play 5 men back and block shots for a game if you have too for other 3 lines and then play with 1 line .. complete screw up with NO coaching .. my cat could have done same thing Keefer did

The advanced stats crowd always defaults to the “luck” argument. They don’t understand why the numbers behave the way they do

Defensive pressure and goaltending position are the biggest factors of shooting %. But they think shooters just forgot how to shoot because those 2 things aren’t measure by xG

Exactly. When someone can show me a xGF stat that accounts for the shooter (Matthews) and shot location combined I think the stat is almost as good as corsi was. It makes no sense how a shot from Thornton is equal to one of AM at the same location. That is a very big bug...not a feature.

I checked his IG cuz I was curious, he dosnt have anything after April? No vacay stuff ect.

Marner is definitely not being traded until after the July signing bonus is paid. But I don't really ever believe when a GM says "we aren't trading someone" because there is NO good reason to say publicly that someone is leaving before the trade is completed

The alternative is not saying he will be traded but "we'll explore all options to improve our team" or some similar platitude.

I wonder how many here would rather have Cole Caufield wearing the blue and white than MM. I know I would. He would at least stick his nose in there and can score in the playoffs.

Montreal doesn't have a pacifist culture, therefore you will not see guys checking out of rough games saying "It's not my thing" and staying on the perimeter.

This is the problem with this team IMO. We have this elitist culture that we are so skilled we don't ever have to get our hands dirty to win. It's like its beneath them to be like NYI or the Habs. Well, those two teams are doing pretty well right now I would say.

I watched a 52 point Leafs team finish second last in the league, qualify for the playoffs due to the NHL's dumb playoff system, and, as I sat in the Greys, lose 8-0 to Detroit in a playoff game. THAT was a garbage team.

Was listening to the Russ Courtnall podcast a little while back and he mentioned that John Brophy bag skated the 1988 team on the day of Game 7 vs Detroit. Was interesting to hear Courtnall and Clark reminisce that the core they had back then was more talented than the 90s Burns/Fletcher teams but they pulled the plug too early before that group could mature.

I believe Gord Stellick was the GM then, the original boy wonder. Maybe Shanahan and co. are trying to avoid making the mistake of blowing it up too soon.

No, and if Dubas do that, he should be fire. Suzuki is another story, lol.
When Caufield got his chance in the leafs series and the announcers were gushing over him, I found it weird and irritating, but watching him since then, I'm kinda getting it. He is good and is going to get better. The kid has got some skills and some jam to go along with it.

Alternate Reality Dubas: "Nothing is off the table in pursuit of a championship."

Leafs Nation: "Fair enough, we leave you to it."
We both know that wouldn't be Leafs Nations response.

He's quieting speculation and putting the core players at ease. It'll be his downfall IMO, but it does take some courage. Easy way out would be to move a star player or at least say it was considered with a bad return ultimately if you lose in the playoffs again.

The core of this team looks complacent and accepting of it's fait far to often

Almost like children that have had everything gifted to them so they don't value the hard work and the emotional toll it takes to fight for something like playoff success

They are just to comfortable, they need a fire lit under their asses

I would keep the core together but I certainly wouldn't have told them that during the end of season presser, I'd have been "exploring all available options"
