I could give a rats behind about this guy and his other sidekick spineless faker do for next 10 regular seasons if they don’t do it in the playoffs.

I wanna see these guys play with the intensity like they were playing to save their mother’s lives. Because I want playoff success. And in the playoffs, you have to play like that. Because its likely that your opponent is playing like that (which might be why these two gutless posers see such a drop off in production when the games matter...um, hello...it’s much harder to produce when your opponent is bringing max effort, every shift, every night. That doesn’t happen in the regular season).

You really think these two clowns have the personality to compete like that? I hope they do, but there’s been zero indication of that so far.

Here’s my take on why Mitch Marner has underperformed in 3 straight playoffs and whether or not we should trade him.
Marner performed well in his first two playoffs because there was less pressure then. The team was younger and expectations were lower, fans were just excited to be back in the playoffs and they were more patient and optimistic about our future. But now that our playoff series win drought has dragged on fans have run out of patience and the players on the ice can feel that. They know it’s time for this team to go on a playoff run and anything short of a playoff series win is unacceptable and that puts a ton of pressure on the players particularly Marner the home town star who’s unfortunate contract has amplified the pressure on him. Some players thrive on that kind of pressure but it seems Marner doesn’t, atleast not at this point in his career, perhaps a sports psychologist could help him with that. I disagree with the people saying he doesn’t care or isn’t working hard enough. I thought in the MTL series, he looked like he was afraid of making a mistake, especially after that horrific puck over the glass play. Sadly I think it makes sense to trade him and give him a fresh start. Somewhere that’s won a playoff series since 2004, somewhere that doesn’t have two other players also making 10+ million and the way his contract is structured he would hold more value to a budget team as his money owed is much lower than his annual cap hit.

Without clicking the link I am predicting this "article" was written by one James Tanner.

article lost all its credibility to me at second best player. Objectively, Mackinnon and Kucherov are better.

also nylander hitting 100 points? What did john Tavares become Gretzky or something

Didn't you know?

Matthews had the best WAR - he got the WAR award for it at the NHL awards and the Leafs will be hanging the expectedWins banner because they beat out everyone

and marner will be the xGF% legend because expectations matter more than reality

:sarcasm:

Rumor has it McDavid threw his Hart trophy in the trash as soon as he found out Matthews beat him in WAR.

"If Nylander played every game with Matthews, and got on the first PP unit, I’m sure he’d approach 100 points"

There's probably no bigger Nylander fan than myself but dear mother of god James Tanner...

The Leafs should stick Nylander up on the 1st line and have him "approach" those 100 points and then trade him for a king's ransom with the way this guy thinks things up.

Agreed. I love nylander, my favourite player on the team, but setting him with those expectations are unfair. He’s a 65-80 point player depending on usage, linemates, luck etc…

With the way he’s talking, we have Mcdavid playing with Colton Orr and Fraser Mclaren, not William Nylander with John Tavares:huh:

Time for me to do my job as a leafs fan and go and rub it in everyone’s face that our superstar had the best WAR. Gotta make everyone forget about 3G in 14GP, or 5 first round exits, or 1P in 5 Series clinchers. Oh well at least we got the WAR:thumbu::thumbu:

You can tell I don’t follow fancy stats but what the heck is “war”……..I’m sure it doesn’t mean that he is a real warrior

Just respect other people opinion
Are you serious? Both myself and my position are endlessly ridiculed and attacked around here, even though my position is the one that is supported by all of the factual evidence. I do respect a difference of opinion, and I have no issue with constructive criticism, but some things are not a matter of opinion, and most of the criticism being thrown around is not constructive or even accurate.

By "objectively", you mean PP pts.

I can’t help think “wins above replacement” WAR is a nonsense stat.
Who picks then replacement, who decides how good or bad the replacement is.
I’m guessing the only one even talking about stats like war are the people on the losing side. I bet the winning side is talking about their win

I guess so! Why I was quoting was for some interesting statistics/raw data the article contained on the first page, not Tanners scintillating writing style.

a closed mind misses much in life~ some wise philosopher said this a long time ago

If you're directing that me, I agree. However, I fear after reading a couple of dozen Tanner articles an exception is perfectly justified. :)

I think I'll take your word for it and stop at one, that was pretty bad.
