Since Kuch was injured in the regular season, I guess he is rank 600 plus then.
AM is a great player but he is not the 2nd best player in the league. Heck, I don’t even think he is the second best player in the Atlantic. That is not saying he sucks and not good, just being real.

Since this thread is about Marner and as long as we're talking about Hart voting, it should be said that Money Mitch scored one 5th place vote which was good enough to put him in a tie for 19th (15th among forwards). Well done Money Mitch! Lucky for him that playoffs aren't considered in Hart voting or I suspect that one vote he got goes away. Or wait, does Paul have a vote?

I don’t know why people even use 2nd place or worse place finish in an award(by vote) to show that the player is good. It is like saying we should be proud of our Leafs for making the playoffs 5 years in a row.

The only stat that actually matters is FUTURE wins, actually. Wins in the past are over.

So we then ask the question - what are the best tools we have to ensure wins going FORWARD?

Overall, I consider goals more valuable than assists. As such, I think there’s a case to be made that Matthews is the 2nd best player in the nhl. McDavid is undeniably the best player, then #2 is debatable over three or so players.

Well if that's actually true, and since nobody here actually loves stats more than you, why don't you actually share these stats with us. :laugh::laugh:

And for the record, I don't agree with this at all. IMHO there is no such thing as "future" stats of any kind, and some stats from the past are very well known and revered by sports fans all over the world.

He was also voted at minimum 3rd best by his peers as a finalist for the Lindsey and I think It's safe to assume he was probably seen as 2nd best by the players as Crosby just didn't have the season Matthews did.

You don't agree that the only thing a GM should care about is his team winning as much as possible going forward?

My humble opinion is it sure isn’t Keefe, he has been really bad the last 2 playoffs

I guess If the Leafs won the Cup last season it won’t matters bc it is about Future Wins.
Just curious, I said the only stat that matters is Win. And you replied by saying Future Wins matter. Did I say Future win didn’t matters? At least we agree that Wins matter.

No doubt Goals is more important than assists. But Kuch and Mack is ahead of AM for now. When you watch them play, esp Mack, they are always the most dangerous player on the ice with the extra jump. AM still lacks that consistency shift in shift out.
But it is a good debate.

Should not blame Keefe, if only JT and Muzzin didn’t get injured. If only Price and Weber were injured. If only AM and Marner scored more than ONE goal. If only other teams and their players choke like some players we know. Keefe would have let the Leafs to a Cup bc those advance stats kept pointing at Leafs winning.
