Tough stretch for Sauga. They need better netminding, but some defensive lapses aren't helping the issue either. That was a tough 3 games though, Petes just added and so did Sarnia, but a single point and two reg losses out of 6 was disappointing.

If I'm MISS I'm offering KGN a trade of Beglieri+3rd+5th for Zhigalov at the deadline. I think KGN would do it with a very limited import goalie market

Any realistic possibility they could be talking about aforementioned swap?

Don’t see why they wouldn’t be. Zhigalov would be a huge upgrade and could get him for far cheaper than a 19 year old NHL drafted goalie should go for because he uses an import tag

Another game where they have a considerable edge in shots but the best scoring chances are in their own end. Same thing last year but at least the D Zone play was stiffer then this year. Third best PP in the league but it didn't look like it last night. Lots of puck movement, but little in the way of good chances.

Any thoughts fellow arm chair coaches?

Thankfully they bounced back with a strong game on Sunday. I have a few thoughts to share below in regards to the team's struggles so far.

Goaltending: obviously hasn't been good enough and is tough after having such strong goaltending last season. Leenders with a great game on Sunday, but they can't rely on him if they hope to contend. An upgrade on Beglieri is a must if they want to go far in the playoffs.

Defence: Really missing Bjorgvik-Holm and it is even more noticeable when Larsen is also out of the lineup. Del Mastro, Sharpe and Callaghan have been solid but I have been disappointed with the play of Enright so far.

Forwards: depth scoring has been an issue. Veccia hasn't been able to build on last season and Misa has been disappointing after a very productive pre-season. Was hoping for more from Cooke and Zebeski. Binnie doesn't bring much to the table and Struthers has been invisible.

There must be better prospects/free agents/value trades that could be made to upgrade on any of the guys who have played 4th line minutes so far: Binnie, Struthers, MacGregor, Eggleton, Karmiris have a combined 1 point so far

Solid analysis and agree with respect to the struggles. It is looking more like the Steelheads will be sellers as the deadline approaches, as there are too many holes to plug. Team needs:

- Goalie upgrade x 1
- D upgrade x 2 or 3
- See depth scoring improve or upgrade on this front as well

Unfortunately the 4th liners have little to no trade value, except for maybe Karmiris and possibly Struthers. Binnie, MacGregor Richmond, and Eggleton won’t be moved for various reasons. So the team is basically stuck with the lot.

They could trade Karmiris and Struthers for a low return, but if you plan to sell, perhaps the best thing to do is keep them and see if they develop between now and 2023 training camp?

The Steelheads will absolutely be in full rebuild mode next year - Hardie, Callaghan, Larsen, Del Mastro, Del Bel, and *possibly* Beck will all be gone. OAs will be Sharpe, Enright, Schwindt, with Misa, Lavoie, and Veccia rounding out the core group. It will be tough sledding for the Steelheads next year.

struthers would clear waivers. every team has someone like him sitting in the stands. karmiris they could get alot for. they have always needed d, heard they were in on flints petrovski, but they need 2 more to slot things out better.

Agree, Struthers is low or no return.

Interested in your take on Karmiris as an under-performing 1st rounder to date (some of which is likely a function of being buried on the 4th line at times).

Does a team make a bet on him and put in a compelling offer (and give him a legit opportunity) or does a team question whether he is really a first rounder and severely discount the offer? If the offers are low, I would hold the asset.

i think most teams are smart and get it on 1st round picks, on alot of teams they never play for whatever reason (deep team or philosophy) and will still be go to players at 19. even landon mccallum who has struggled for a few years is almost at a point a game now.

rolofs never played in london and they dumped him later and now hes a point a game guy as well.

Beglieri went down with no contact on the 6th goal. Hopefully nothing too serious. Was helped to the locker room and carried off the ice. Can't put weight on one of his legs.

Wasn't dressed yesterday, thin in net with a 16 yr old rookie holding down the fort and a young waiver/FA as a BUG. It's been a tough three weeks already as it is.

With Beck and Del M off to the WJC and a couple of suspensions and a trade the Steelheads are quite shorthanded. Had the new FA goalie dressed last night as the BUG.

Hillebrandt, SamGL6.011582005-02-21Riverview, FLOHL - BAR FA (2022)

I see Charlie with a five gamer, and Larsen not listed. Guessing Larsen will be back tonight, missed the school day game, what did charlie do to get a fiver?

Check to the head of Mason Wray vs Hamilton. He wasn't penalized on the play.

Wray is out with a concussion.

Rough weekend for the team. Outclassed by NB, and lost a tight game they should have won against the IceDogs.

Looks like it'll be Leenders carrying the load over the next few weeks if Beglieri makes Team Switzerland. At least it should be good experience for him long-term.

Wondering what the team will do next. Took a loss on the Enright trade after trading a couple thirds for him in the offseason but did get a great return for Lavoie on the other hand. I assume they'll use those picks to add this year, otherwise they would have built around Beck and Lavoie next year.

They'll need an upgrade in net, at least 1 top 4 d-man and 2 top 6 forwards if they have any chance against the best in the East

I liked Zak but that is a great return. Looking forward to a shakeup.
i thought the new guy Ha(r)ley looked very good against Niagara....lets now trade Del Mastro and see what we can get ;)

Surprised but like the recent deal. Nice to get a couple seconds and two thirds, and a fourth. The draft grid was low on picks, this certainly helps. I liked Zak as well, but he seemed to lack anticipation upon entering the offensive zone when carrying the puck, usually shooting a low chance shot from the wing, instead of throwing it toward a teammate in better position.

What happens next? With the Enright deal and this you have to wonder if JR is hedging a little while until the trade deadline. If they don't get a upgrade in goal I don't see much benefit in upgrading at the deadline. Realistically the most likely path would be the Kingston import, swap him for our Beglieri and a couple of picks, could really change the looks of this team going forward this year.

What are the Steelheads looking to do at the TDL? Is this a go for it year?

With two D at the WJC and Charlie suspended, Enright dealt the Trout are down 4 Dmen in just over a week. OK, JR couldn't foresee the suspension but why the timing of the Enright deal? I know there is a closed window over the holidays but having him around closer to the actual TD would have been some help right now and the next few games. I'm wondering if Enright's camp wanted a deal.

I'm not sure what will happen next and I wonder if JR is thinking the same as well. You could definitely tell the team was shorthanded, especially with Del Mastro/Callaghan out, plus the holes left by Enright and Lavoie.

I hate to say it but it appears that this team doesn't have what it takes, again they were outclassed by the Rangers and I don't know if a few additions at the trade deadline will be enough. Unfortunately most of the new players added in the off-season have not lived up to expectations: Cooke, Belglieri, Enright, Struthers, etc.

Although especially with Lavoie gone, not sure their 04 group is strong enough to build around either. Tough spot to be in

Hello Steelheads fans
Tonight I am reaching out to the broader hockey family and communities not as a London Knights fan, but as a concerned human being. As you know, one of our Knights players died tragically this past Saturday. His friends, family and the community are devastated.
Please consider donating to the GoFundMe page set up by his family to help with the funeral arrangements.
Thank you

Hi again.
Seems the page has been taken down for some reason.
The Knights are checking into it with the family right now. Please stay tuned.
