And Yeo was mentioned as a potential HC target for some teams... though that's hard to imagine given Gallant, Laviolette, Boudreau, and Babcock are available.

They were available when NJ hired Ruff, too.

ETA: Besides, Boudreau is going to be an assistant in Toronto. They need a guy to fix the PP. And it's Toronto. Everyone wants to be in Toronto. It's predestined. /Friedman

The next coach for the Caps is going to be for a rough ride. That bunch isn't getting any younger. Its full of players that see their own vision of how they are going to play no matter what a coach might say or want. Short of a Dale Hunter type coming back there with a 2X4 and MacLellan being willing to move out guys that won't get with the program, the Caps are a grease fire in the making.

I agree, renberg. That’s a job that may seem appealing at first glance but it’s on the verge of implosion. A bunch of aging vets who have already won a Cup set in their ways.

Is Babcock still a legitimate NHL option? Or is he semi-cancelled for being mean to Matthews?

On a slightly related note, a Leafs blogger the other day was talking about Hakstol maybe returning to the NCAA.

Don't want to lose Yeo. He's done a fantastic job with our D and PK.

Only 6 different Cup winners over the past decade.

It's a tough slog.

Let's be the 7th.
Poor Carolina all those corsis wasted.

Between Boston, Sharks, Blues, Wild and Tampa thats a crazy amount of talent to result in two cups won on a back of defense first style.

Although you can still argue that right until 2014 all those cup winning teams they were deserving champions. However 15' Hawks and even worse 17' Pens just don't belong.

Still better than that 15 year period were all the cup winners were either habs, oilers, flyers or islanders. That must have sucked for business, no wonder uncle Gary is so entrenched.

Johnson is a huge loss. Grubauer hurts less because Francouz is more than capable.

Johnson was a great compliment for Girard; the Avs don't have a guy who can seamlessly replace those minutes.
