Just can't watch anymore. Every single 50/50 call goes to VGK. Every single one. And the sad thing is, VGK doesn't even need the Refs helping them out. It's just embarrassing for this league. Just absolutely embarrassing.
There is nothing that the NHL has done since bringing on Bettman that is embarrassing. To be embarrassed one needs to have a sense of decency.

I don't mind the tweet, but I wish people would account for cap inflation more in general.

When the Pens won the Cup in 2009, Crosby was on a $8.7m cap hit with a cap ceiling of only $56.7m. So his Cap Hit percentage for that season was 15.3%. Eichel's CH% in 2023 is only 12.1%.

I hadn't actually seen these estimates before:

It is kind of a deep problem, and not just in hockey. It's why idiots cry about high gas prices, when the real gas price is about the same as it was 20 years ago. A basic inability to understand inflation.

Same thing with people getting mad that MacKinnon got a higher AAV than McDavid.

Not really. The current price is about 40-45% more than what it would be if it was just inflation. Even if you just look at regular, it's ~$0.90 more than what it should be due to inflation.

I went by this site which says in 2003 the average price of gas was $1.64, which is $3.81 in 2023 dollars.

Pro-Tip: Everyone of you people needs to consult your manual and see if your car can run E15. If your car can do 15% ethanol fuel, then figure out which gas stations sell it. It's called Regular 88 these days because everyone was all "rahghghgh I want gasoline not corn-juice!" Regular 88 will be 40 cents cheaper per gallon.

I know Sheetz tends to have it.

There’s 1 Wawa that I know of that has it but it’s too far for me to go just for gas.

I imagine the same kind of people who go "rahghghgh I want gasoline not corn-juice!" also put premium (93 octane or 91 octane) in their cars to make them run better.

I'm on Team Percentage. I wish contracts and cap hits would be talked about in terms of cap percentage instead of millions of arbitrary, made up units.

Lol I said it’s not that deep because it was just a post stating he was the first one over 10 AAV (and the subtle dig at the leafs that was included)

It wasn’t an analysis into cap % or anything that can have a myriad of things affecting it. Most of that is based on timing of when the guy signs anyway and also ignores that Vegas had the largest cap expenditure ever thanks to LTIR

Las Vegas
Marchessault has always been the heart and soul of Vegas, with the other Misfits (Smith/Karlsson). He gets his 25 goals/70 points per year and has a CorsiRel of +10 with Vegas.

That’s why I would hold onto TK. Marchessault was 27 in the expansion year, TK will be 26. There’s no reason TK won’t have 6 prime years ahead of him, and any competent organization can turn things around in 6 years.

Konecny already makes more than Marchessault. He's due for a good raise

Vegas was a team that was able to compete right out of the gates. The Flyers are not.

no one is saying anything negative about him, the point is to sell high and his next contract will not be cheap either
