If we are talking pure one timers on the power play, I'd say Tage Thompson is the closest to Laine (he actually has the hardest shots in the league this year).

Yup, one of my favs to watch too and always in my fantasy team. Tage isn't as accurate as Laine with the onetimer but it's even harder than Laine's. not that it makes a difference if it's 98 or 101 mph. Laine is better with wrister.
Matthews' wrister is leagues better than Laine's tho.
Riiiiiight.....

Matthews' release is better/faster/more deceptive/more adaptable.

Agreed, just fixed the unnecessary hyperbole

You cant have a team with all perfect players, thats just not possible. Laine can be a very good player if hes paired with good playmaker with speed and good defensive awareness. You dont have many 40 goals scorers in the league. I hope we offer him an extension.

And why you have 2 of the biggest POS in your avatar?
I just changed my avatar. The female tv hero of my youth. I was in love with her.

I don't think we can talk about a 40 goal scorer in Laine. To achieve that, he must improve his game to a degree I think it's impossible. Instead of having a real 40 g scorer, we have a project player who maybe, in the best conditions, blablabla, etc. You know? We look like the dump of the nhl, we are the mat that everyone wipes their feet, we can't get the real thing, only project, reclamations, injured players, etc. It's getting insulting, we deserve better.

I think he was just plain gassed out at the end of the rough stretch before 4 Nations. Dude looked stuck in mud.

He's no speed demon still but he's moving and trying to make plays. Bit of a streak going on right now with 2 goals, 4 assists, 6 pts in 4 games.
Once he’s fully healthy next season he will become arguably our best player. It’s no coincidence this team is doing well when Laine is contributing. He’s been the main reason of our success. This team blew up when Patrik Laine finally showed up. His secondary scoring has been vital to our success.

Next year if he gets back to 100% health and then gets to play with Demidov, he might really pad his totals

What's the deal between Caufield and Laine. Did anybody see the look Caufield gave to Laine after he assisted on his career high goal? Caufield pounds in PPG for opener | NHL.com
That's pure rage right there for a moment. I don't think Caufield likes Laine...
I think you might need antipsychotics, looks like you’re hallucinating things. It’s ok, there are treatments available.

That fist-bump and hug definitely looked hateful. Clearly Caufield was dripping with contempt. Good eye, thanks for sharing.

The 4 Nations tournament has turned Laine into a new man.
As @DAChampion says, even though he came for free (or: cost negative-value) it doesn't mean his performances don't affect our outcome. When he plays well the Habs have a big-time advantage in a game. He's becoming a critical player despite all the drawbacks, setbacks, and problems with his performance and play.

The key factor? He's the most talented forward we have had on the Habs in a very, very long time. He's so talented that on one leg and completely out of shape and with mental health issues dogging him, he's still outproducing many of his healthy, younger, fully-integrated-into-the-team teammates. Very good for Laine and the Habs if this works out and if it seems there is no deal to be made, he will be a huuuuuuuge trade piece next trade deadline.

You can tell he’s a big time player. When the Habs first acquired him we went on a run and Laine was producing and now we’re seeing it again. We he goes, the Habs go.

He’s nothing like Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook who seldom go on a streak. He is clearly the better of those 3 players. He’s starting to look better too on a game by game basis.

He’s recovering still from rust, injury and being out of game shape, but still finding ways to contribute. We don’t have a player like this who can produce even when not close to his best. Patrik is the only one.

Last night couple of times he lost his balance, when his weight was fully on his bad knee. It's obviously still bothering him very much. It's affecting quite a bit his skating speed and balance. I really hope that he doesn’t need surgery after season and it heals fully with rehab.

I noticed it too. Something was off. Caufield was like irritated that Patty fed him one of the sweetest saucers he has ever seen. PTSD from getting fed too fast and too accurate spoonfulls of pearsauce as a baby? Who knows.

But lets examine the evidence:

1. Laine scores a goal, Caufield gets excited and starts humping him:

2. Caufield scores from Laine's perfect pass, Caufield feels only anger:

Lovely gal for sure rocking the habs jersey.

Demidov coming next season , he is the real deal. With him in the line up next season we potentially could have two 40 goals scorers on our team. Reinbacher looks solid in laval right now. Future looks bright for habs nation. Our turn is coming. We finally have a management team I trust to take us from pretenders to contenders

Heard Caufield went to St-Louis and asked him to not play with Laine anymore, prefer passes from Dvo.

He's always going to have serious flaws - he's slow and doesn't have an extra gear, he is what he is, but he's also insanely gifted at a few things which make him a weapon even with his limitations. We saw the worst of him before the break but he continues to shows when the team is playing well he offers an x factor that many players who work harder don't have.

He's no franchise player but he's a weapon that the Habs need to try to use properly while he's here.
