Fletcher is doing this for the same reason Hextall did this - the FO simply won't bite the bullet.

I doubt Hextall really wanted to sign JVR, but he was under pressure to win now after they unexpectedly made the playoffs in 2017-18.

I think Fletcher is sincere about wanting top talent under 25, but he's been under pressure to win now since he arrived, but he's managed to trade only one 1st rd pick and got one back, and no top prospects (Patrick and Myers were damaged goods). Which is both why things are muddled, but also why things aren't nearly as bad as they could be.

The good thing about hiring Torts is he won't pull punches and with that contract (and paying AV) they can't fire him.
So if he goes into Scott's office after the season and says "blow it up," Scott will have to listen.

Fletcher is the FO. He is doing this because it is the path he agrees with.

Is it just Flyers GMs who get forced into signing players, or is it the whole league? Because Hextall just signed 29 year old Rickard Rakell to a 6 x $5m extension after a 41 P in 70 GP season.

I wonder if the whole "The lightning signed and played Luke Schenn and Zach Bogosian so they must be good" equivalency still applies here.
When slotted properly both are solid bottom pair defenseman.

Clearly they believe in Myers despite Nashville discarding him rather early.

I think this reflects their cap situation next season.

They have $2.4M next year, with Killorn, Namestnikov, PEB, Perry and Cole as UFAs - so just replacing them with minimum wage players will take them to or over the Cap. So Myers may have to start just because they'll need bodies. Though they can LTIR Seabrook for an additional $6M.

A better question is how they plan to be cap compliant this season, given they're $7.2M over.
Seabrook and Cirelli on LTIR?

Hey look you answered it.
If Cirelli can't play, they're really thin up front. And if he dresses, they're right up or a little over the cap.
Next year, even with Seabrook, $8.4M to fill 5 spots plus any depth positions limits your options.

Right now their bottom six: Hagel (23), Colton (25), PEB (37), Perry (37), Maroon (34), Barre-Boulet (25)
The 5-7th D-men: Myers, Foote, Fleury

Off topic—-where do you guys have Cooley among 23 draft? Was offered a 1st (top 5 next year probably) for him

Good landing spot for Ellis and his contract. Chuck is on top of it.

I didn't label anyone. I just went by their spots on the team. You can switch Sanheim and Provorov if it makes you feel better. Point is, none of these players would be on the top pair on a contender.
The whole way you went about trying to form your point is just poorly done.

I get what you were trying to do but there were much better ways to illustrate the point you were trying to make.

Given how badly Sanheim faded the last 20 games, you have to question whether he can handle a 1st pair workload (22-24 minutes a night).

And no, he's not going to beat out Hedman in TB, Slavin in CAR, Toews in Col, Josi in Nash,
He might beat out Forsling in FLA, Lindholm in Boston, Nurse in Edmonton, Brodin in Minn, Lindgren NYR, Rielly in Tor
He would beat out Dumoulin in PIT, Krug in STL, Hague in Vegas, Fehervary in Wash

Sanheim continues to be an amazing way to gauge people's hockey knowledge.

Claiming he wouldn't be on the top pair on a contender is just screaming "I have no clue what I'm talking about" at the top of your lungs.
Brought to you by the same guy that once proclaimed Sanheim to be one of "their guys".

Then it will be a no brainer for him to tell the Flyers he will be testing free agency.

He'd handle it just fine with an NHL caliber partner, which he has rarely had in his career. And doesn't have now

Last 20 games ES GF-GA
Sanheim 25-19 = +6
Provorov 17-29 = -12

Last 20 games ES GF/60 and GA/60
Sanheim 3.74 - 2.85
Provorov 2.57 - 4.38

Last 20 games:

Sanheim - Risto 174 minutes, GF/GA 12/7, xGF% 46.91%
Provorov - York 153 minutes, 9/14, xGF% 50.31%
Provorov - Attard 88 minutes, 5/4, xGF% 57.99%
Provorov - Sanheim 78 minutes, 2/3, xGF% 40.80%
Sanheim - Hogberg 66 minutes, 1/1, xGF% 43.05%
Connauton - Attard 48 minutes, 2/4, xGF% 38.28%
Yandle - Zamula 47 minutes, 0/4, xGF% 59.53%
Yandle - Attard, 41 minutes, 3/3, xGF%, 55.43%
Connauton - Zamula, 40 minutes, 0/1, xGF% 65.49%

Guess they were right to extend Risto, Sanheim clearly played worse without him.

Thank you for helping show how idiotic your boy is for refusing to use Zamula.
