He’s mad because he signed Benning & Seguin to big money/term UFA deals & now these guys aren’t living up to it as they enter their age 30+ seasons.

Robertson is literally a guy you try to lock in long term now to get his most fruitful seasons under contract.

It’s amazing the people that run this game still don’t understand the age curve.

“These meddling kids like Robertson are preventing me from signing MORE bad contracts to 30+ support players! Grumble grumble!”

Can’t believe this doofus is giddy about writing those checks.

Robertson is literally the type of player you invest into like that. Already a PPG player at 23 years old with the strong underlying numbers to back it up. Lock him up now until like his early 30’s.

Ahh the irony that most who agree with paying youth are still livid Chuck moved on from Giroux.

Although I think if the truth ever comes out Giroux just made a personal choice to go home to raise his family.

Giroux is still a top line player at 34 years old. I don’t care that they walked away because there’s nothing to salvage here anymore but for a team that has mindset of being competitive it makes no sense in their lack of interest.

They're actually getting paid less overall than they were several years ago. In terms of cap percentage. The league has mostly realized that sinking all your cap into a few stars is meaningless if you can't build the depth. If anything it's the middle of the road players who are now overpaid.

From all reports, Giroux wanted to stay, but Fletcher didn't want him because he believes players like Hayes, Ristolainen, TDA, etc are more important

Most GM’s in this league are horrible at finding value in the less obvious spots (ours included lol). They hate turning over the roster so they don’t treat most of it as replaceable like they should. So they’ll give mid to low tier players crazy money & term when they hit UFA status that these players never really live up to.

It just shows how clueless the organization is. I have no problem with walking from Giroux, but I do have an issue with the way it went down, and how Fletcher decided to basically give Giroux's money to a player like Ristolainen.

Maybe the ins and outs of the Giroux situation will see the light of day. I know that Patrice Bergeron wanted to play on with the Bruins and both sides found a way to work it out. For whatever reason that didn’t happen here. Question: Do you believe that Giroux would have accepted the deal that Bergeron did or one close to it? IDK.

Teams often get these top players to take less so they can invest it into the mid to low tier of the roster & it rarely works out. McDavid for example should have taken that $14M+ that was initially offered.

Instead of being unable to really fill out the roster with max quality because they sank dough into a star or two, they're unable to fill out the roster because they sank the savings on the stars onto some mid-level guys with far less impact anyway.

I don't think Giroux can sign an incentive based contract, but you can't tell me Giroux wouldn't have signed a friendly deal to re-sign here
