It doesn’t even start until the following season either. But I think this is optics driven for Calgary. They had to throw a boatload of money at Huberdeau to get him to stay after Gaudreau & Tkachuk turned them down.

I would have imagined he would have signed for less in Florida. Probably more like $8-9M a year range, more desirable location & no income tax.

Even with that though I just don’t think Florida wanted to sign a player to big deal going through their age 30 to 38 seasons. They got Tkachuk signed through his age 24 to 32 seasons.
