We've seen what he asked of Ottawa, and we can safely assume he'd have taken even less to be here. Giroux wasn't asking for anything ridiculous. He asked Fletcher to trade him for a better return and then bring back the best player on the roster. Actually, that's extremely reasonable. Fletcher turning it down is unreasonable. He was offered a win-win and refused it.

You're acting like the captain is to blame for how the team is made and performs in any way. That's what your posting about "Giroux's message" says. That's simply not true. Captains aren't coaches or GMs. Flyers fans in particular fetishize the captaincy to absurd degrees because the Flyers (while Clarke was GM, hmmm) pounded out years of propaganda about how the C is everything and Clarke was the greatest of them all. Without Parent he'd just be remembered as a loser thug, though.
Assume nothing. Bottom line is you do not know. You say wasn't asking for anything ridiculous. Can you back that up with any proof?

Not acting like anything. Nice tangent on the role of a captain.

Clarke a thug? That is def a new one.

Thinking about becoming a Devils fan. That’s one hell of a core. Hughes, Hischier, Palat, Dougie, Nemec, Vanacek, Luke Hughes.

Not bad at all.

Buffalo looks super fun too. Quinn, Power, Dahlin, Savoie, Tuch, Rosen, Krebs.

Calgary big mad because someone didn't want to live in a tundra for the rest of their lives

I like the “it’s not that they left, it’s how they left” type of people. There’s nothing a person can do that would be acceptable to these type of people. I get frustration but don’t kill a player for doing what’s best for them.

Right? I love the presumptuous " well, he knew he was gonna leave, no reason to string us along" narrative, too. I mean, it looks that way, sure, but maybe he really was considering staying and just coulsnt convince his wife.

I'll never understand the people that think that just because someone plays a sport for a living doesn't mean they aren't human and go through the same emotions, thoughts and feeling the rest of us do.

So qualify him at $3.6m and see if there any takers at the next deadline.

It's the same argument against buying out Lindblom only to see him sign at almost what his old AAV was.
I think maybe the fact that they tried to trade him for a year at $3 million might've made them think he wasn't going to be easy to trade at $3.5 million??? Maybe he didnt even want to sign the QO? I have no clue. I think it's obvious they didn't give up anything of significance by doing what they did.

I am not aware of any reports they tried to trade Lindblom, so hard to say its the same. The contract he got surely makes it seem like the Flyers could've gotten something for him, but its not a guarantee. If I am SJ I would rather sign him to 2 year 2.5 AAV than trade for him at 1 year 3 mill, though there is obvious risk since hes UFA at the end

I guess so. Maybe they think they can use some of their remaining space to trade for a big contract with a pick attached. Currently at $10,590,704 after the Keith peanlty.
