Do you read the posts in here, people are ripping Hyman as a playoff bust because he doesn’t put points up all while giving hall passes to AM and MM. so yeah, I think Soup’s a bad replacement, he hardly is a 4th liner let alone a 1st liner.
It is insane to judge Hyman on his playoff scoring. None of the three had a strong playoff. Two poor playoffs for Marner now. No one should grant a pass to any of them.

How about this then?

Hyman gave at least or better than fair value for a $2.25M player.
Mitch & Auston did not come close to giving fair value for $11M players.
Pretty clear Hyman was battling through injuries as well. His role and play style is limited to the players he's retrieving pucks for. I don't find much use at all ragging on Hyman's production. Bang for buck wise he definitely provided more value than 34 and 16.

Amen.

Keefe and The Kid started the season with Joe Thornton as the #1 LW. Hyman was a godsend after that decision.
Other than loading up with AM; MM;WN what viable choices were there? No cap, no depth.....

The team played its best when the ZIP or HEM line was intact. Reunite that line and then you have 12, 15 or 71 as options for LW on the top 2 lines.

I don't care about Oilers fans. I don't want to see the Leafs overpay to keep a player like Hyman. If he walks beacuse he wants too much money so be it.

Hyman will sign for 4.0-4.5 but it will be a long term and front loader. We’ll deal with the last 2-3 years when we get there

I was hoping that would be the situation prior to these media rumblings. We'll have to wait and see what happens though - few more weeks until free agency.

You actually pondered in a previous what Oiler fans would think about having a overpaid Hyman.

No money for team depth because half the cap goes to four players, nothing changes until Dubas’ experiment is ended.....

I actually think the problem can be rectified fairly easily by moving out Marner, and to a lesser extent Rielly.

Sadly management likely sits on their hands another year, which means another year wasted.

It’s a start imo.

Hyman's being a greedy f***er. Simple as that.

The teams decide the value of the player, it's a free market, they don't have to sign him if they don't want to. If Boston say's Zach your worth $6 mil and Toronto says Zach your worth $4 mil, he's worth $6 mil... If Boston says Zach your worth $2 mil a season and Toronto say Zach your worth $1 mil, he's worth $2 mil.

It's not greedy to ask for a raise, its good business.

For players to take less than their market value is stupid and showing weakness on the players behalf. The NHL is a business, not a sport, Bettman has made that abundantly clear. It's not up to Zach to fix Dubas poor cap management.

yup i agree but i think the contract will be high 4’s x 8yrs which will be spun as some huge win for Dubas because teams x-y-z were rumored to have offered 7 x 7 , lol

and Hyman can pretend he gave a discount like JT

Perhaps, but if they are moved, it has to be for a return that is going to move the team closer to the Cup. What indication has Kid Kyle given so that you believe it's something he is capable of?

Love hyman but he is 29 and we all know his play style does not age well. He has max 3 years left IMO until he is 3rd line quality. You don't want to pay something like 5mil x 5 years for him

Hyman deserves his money. This is his only chance to his the big bucks.
I can't blame him
maybe we can target Blake Coleman
sad to see Hyman go but maybe it's best we walk away from this one.
My question is, and not in a dick way, but why is Hyman worth so much but players like Coleman, Goodrow, cizkas ect (players who are more proven) would cost cheaper? Wouldnr a team pay more for a Coleman than Hyman? Again, honest asking, I'm confused haha
