I really like Hyman but do you really think its going to stop Mathews and marner from putting up points in the the regular season if he leaves?he supposed to be a playoff player hasn't shown it

The Matthews-Marner duo will drive the line just fine regardless of who the left wing is Hyman biggest value was probably as a guy to help out the third line,.but he ultimately wasn't ending up there with the Leafs.

Hope he enjoys the winters in Edmonton.

Aren’t AM and MM suppose to be playoff players? Because I haven’t seen it yet.......

They're trying to prepare you for Dubas giving him $5 and make it seem like a good deal. Oh boy aren't we lucky to have Dubas the young master genius. He kept Hyman, what a genius.
this and Dubas trading Marner/Nylander for pieces and letting Rielly walk are my biggest fears

I'm talking about Hyman has he ever shown he's a playoff performer?
Why criticize Hyman’s playoff performance? He’s a 2 mil player, AM and MM are the real playoff failures, but ignore the big problem and focus on the only guy who actually gives his all every shift. Should he have put up better numbers, yup, but it wasn’t for lack of trying......

Lol yep mitch and Austin wasn't trying

This is Hyman’s last chance for a big payday.
Good for him.
But if the leafs sign him for those big bucks it will be the final nail in the coffin for this franchise

Who replaces him for 2 mil?

An up and coming young player or a youngish free agent from European leagues. Oh wait...Brooks, Barabanov and Robertson were blocked by over the hill veterans and Barabanov was moved.

Guess adding "leadership" into the bottom 9 was probably the wrong move.

I've come to like Hyman alot, but a part of me wonders if my, and others love for him, is moreso because the rest of the team largely lacks compete and physicality.

Then there's the issue that, "players like Hyman," are what make you win in the playoffs... But... He's been injured and ineffective the past 2-3 playoffs.

It'll suck losing one of the few guys who competes and is physical nearly every game, but the Leafs need to stop getting attached to players who don't make a difference when it matters most. They especially need to stop overpaying them.
people tend to pull for underdogs and Hyman with his 10 thumbs falls into that category

but if you watch the teams left he'd be nothing more than 10-12 min a night player and he'd be lucky if he got offered a small raise from his current deal

Strong contenders have a good middle class of players who bring Hyman style games and a handful of minor league replacements who can bring some hustle on the lower lines when promoted. It reflects fairly poorly on Toronto that he's become some kind of blue collar unicorn. Bad that his work ethic stands out among his teammates who often come out half asleep and also not well on management that they don't seem to draft or develop these kind of players.

No money for team depth because half the cap goes to four players, nothing changes until Dubas’ experiment is ended.....

I like Hyman, the guy seems to love the team and city, he gives everything he has every single play and he's improved his game year on year to an amazing degree

That said anybody thinking of giving this guy anything close to 5.5M-6M over as much as 6 years needs their head read and I'd be filthy if our management is that stupid

He has a play style and injury history that's isn't conducive to aging well

I wish him well with his new team and pity the team that signs him

Let's get rid of Hyman so we can find and sign a good player like Hyman.

Lets find a Hyman replacement that doesn't make 5m+ a year. You don't pay role players like Hyman that kind of money. History shows you the back end of the contracts are painful.

Agreed..it seems that we all are amazed at Hyman's work ethic (which is excellent BTW) because we see so little of it from anyone else. The league is full of guys busting their hump to stay in the league...but we can't seem to find them. We are looking for Veseys and Boyd instead of a tougher guy not afraid to go in the corners. Oh well...I still predict Hyman will not get anywhere close to the 5.5m+ that Dreger keeps spouting about. Other GM's have Hyman type players and they don't over pay for them.

Dubas keeps saying they draft skill and will trade for Grit. Ok...lets see it then.

Losing Hyman will be a big blow to the Leafs.

Little by little, the team is being replaced with dumpster diving specials.

So, many assets are walking out the door with nothing coming back

I haven't felt this low since John Ferguson Junior was running the show.
I agree dubas letting the heart leave

Ha ha, people hate Hyman’s finish and your suggestion is Soup replaces him? Nothing could go wrong with that idea. :sarcasm:
whacking at pucks in the crease or having them bounce in off your body isn't finishing so lets not pretend Hyman's sniping his goals from the face off dot
