Scott Laughton & Adam Lowry who I like better than Hyman as players going forward just got deals done for 3-3.5m if it’s more than that than it’s been a slice, Zach. Go get that Edmonton or Detroit bag

I agree, let him walk...he deserves a raise and someone is going to be sorry a few years down the road. Hyman knows only one speed...full tilt and it will catch up to him. It already has in a way. He has been pretty ineffective the last couple of playoffs...due to injuries and recovery.

There are some hungry guys out there that can probably do the same job well for $3m a year. I think because our team is so soft, we think Hyman is unreal because of his effort. Watch the playoffs...a lot of players play that hard...it's just rare for us to see it..so we think he is one of a kind.

Agreed. 5x5 is the max I'd go, and even that will probably hurt us long-term. I love him, too, but yea this looks like his next contract will be a rough one tho I'm sure many teams will pay it.

I don't think he will get much more than $4.5m on the open market. Just because we like to fall for the media hype on next contracts doesn't mean other GM's will as well. Look at how Dubas said that Marner had changed the dynamic for contracts...and then didn't. I see a lot of GM's being wary of Hyman and being injured so late in his career as a warning sign and don't offer much.

Poor Darren Dreger is going to have to go back to Hyman's dad and explain why he couldn't get his son the Marner special.

Hyman becomes the Highwayman...will miss him in the blue and white if he goes.

Leafs Home Board
Guarantee the isles sign him on a good contract number.

The reason you're likely saying that, and why Hyman is worth $5-6 mil and a good fit with the Islanders, is because that team is one full of Zach Hyman types and their salary structure fits his production as great comparable almost like a glove.

NYI: 2020-21 Stats

Brock Nelson @ $6,000,000........................ 56 games 18 goals 15 assists 33 points
Jordan Eberle @ $5,500,000 .......................55 games 16 goals 17 assists 33 points
Josh Bailey @ $5,000,000 ............................ 54 games 8 goals 27 assists 35 points
Jean-Gabriel Pageau @ $5,000,000...... 54 games 14 goals 14 assists 28 points
vs
Zach Hyman @ $2,250,000 ........................ 43 games 15 goals 18 assists 33 points

Hyman on a Points/g basis produces more and comparable actual stats overall at 1/2 their cap price. So its not hard to see the $5 -$6 mil ask and the perfect example of the NYI salary structure and point production his agent can use when negotiating his new deal. :)

Good News for Hyman is his former GM gave out everyone of those NYI contracts in the past 3 years, so he understands contract value and production comparables and most importantly recognizes and appreciates blue collar and hard working players that are great team players.

Maybe he would have to take a hometown discount, shaving a few million off the overall package?

I'm a leaf fan and a Hyman fan but I do not want him to take a discount...after Marner selfishly squeezed every nickel he could from the Leafs. Naaa .... taking a hometown discount and staying only makes Marners life easier at Hymans expense.

Shanahan warned the kids that getting greedy would mean a less competitive team.

Don't worry, we have a 5'7" soft-skilled Russian 6th round draft pick waiting to pick up the slack!
Who is that ? Who is the last Russian we drafted in the 6th round. Early 2000s? We have Ambramov waiting in the wings but he is 6' 180lbs a 4th round pick or perhaps Der-Arguchintsev he was a third rounder and he is 5'11 180 lbs. Those are the only Russian choices waiting in the wings. We signed Semyonov but he is 6'1 185 lbs

You really need to see someone about getting a sense of humour.
That's about the 3rd one you've missed in this thread alone

Salary Cap: 81.5
current cap: 69.74 (includes Kessel 1.2)
- Kerfoot: -3.5
Cap: 66.24

left: 15.256m

Ya, if you subtract Kerfoot.

But, we will have only 14 players signed versus 15 then. So, we'll have to spend more money on the additional player. So, we will not "save" $3.5 m, nor will we have a $66.24 m cap.

People loved Hyman at 2.2, not 6 million/season.
Ya, that's obvious. But folks are coming up with lots of negative points about him which is what I was really talking about.

But, while we are on this topic, I loved Tavares as an addition, but wondered about the impact of paying him $11 m (i.e., didn't address our largest need, his salary was used as a bench mark for other contracts).

Carolina has 0? Titles recently. Boston last won a title 10 years ago.

maybe use Tampa as an example… but they’re also 18 mil over the cap so they’re really walking a tightrope.

Yesterday's contenders are tomorrow's champions. I only mean to say, those clubs listed (Lightning included but perhaps with an asterisk: Taxes, etc...) could be seen as clubs in a good position to contend going forward. There's latitude to work with and a culture of concession towards team success.

Add the Islanders by the looks of it.

Sadly this is for the best. I'd rather see another team overpay him, then us overpay him and he becomes one of the players Leaf land starts to hate on day in and day out. I've loved Hyman during his time here. He played hard, has a ton of heart and earned the respect of most. But his age, injury history, and his true offensive abilities are all suspect.

I wish him well, hopefully he wins a cup wherever he goes. Best of luck.

Hyman reminds me of our great center fielder, who we just let go for nothing and also, had the same characteristic, jewish, heart and soul guy, great fitness, can lick high end play once in a while, but mostly just drives the other team nuts with ability to keep them in their own zone, way past their stop watch permits.

Kevin Pillar to me, is Zach Hyman type. Heart and soul. Just cannot consistently hit the big shot, the big numbers, but he can go one streaks.

But with a strict cap, Leafs cannot sign him.

Too risky.

Imo, best thing Babcock did, was groom this guy.

But he has a lotta miles, and best for him and for his family he just hits the jackpot.

As a true hockey fan, I will always wish him well and appreciate him.

Is his dad rich. YA, so is mine, but he taught me from a young ago, don't put your hand out, unless you are doing something of value back.

Zach Hyman, does he play like a guy who expects his father to pick up his mortgage arrears. nah, he makes his own billfold now.

This is your time Zach, go for it buddy.
