Dubas is dammed if he does, and dammed if he doesn't. People are giving him shit because there is no money to sign him, and we need players like him. But would also give Dubas shit for signing him for 5 or 6 years at 5m+ plus.

I would much rather lose a piece like Hyman (trust me I enjoy what Hyman brings to the team) then sign him to some ugly deal like what Clarkson / Ladd etc went for. A lot easier to find a hyman replacement then it would be to try to move that contract and caphit in years 4-6 when he can no longer play.

They could fire management tomorrow for all I care.

I think Keefe was bad in the playoffs. Good regular season but for some reason he stops doing all the things that I like in the playoffs.

Dubas - I know is polarizing. I don’t think he did a bad job. He’s had his good (Muzzin, Brodie) and bad (kadri, Marner contract).

All that said, everyone thought the Leafs were the best built team in the North. Everyone had us winning it, but the players choked. Dubas and Shanahan didn’t go out there and play their worst hockey when it counted. That was the players.

If management brings back the same players, then you’re right and they’re idiots. But the off season hasn’t even started yet, so let’s see what they do and hope for the best.
agreed we'll wait and see.

Leaf fans were angry when the team lost to Carolina and Buffalo in the conf finals even tho they had a history of winning and going decently in the playoffs. What’s your point?

You still sound confused. I’ll repeat, we’re mad at endless LOSING. Not even out of the first round. Winning rounds is what will make us happier. You seem to think losing rounds makes us happier. I think you’re very confused.

Would you take him over 5 million 5+ years given the way he plays?

I love Hyman, but whatever contract he receives in free agency i don't see him living up to it, and those rumors are like 5.5-6 long term.
Would love to keep him, but I wouldn't give him more than four years, and definitely not anything over $5M. Maybe not more than $4M.

The guy has scored at a 30 goal pace on average the last 3 seasons without powerplay time. Regardless of who you play with you that is pretty impressive and will get you paid in this league.

Going to miss Hyman... brings it every single shift and the leafs need more of those guys not less.

They all signed for those amounts before the playoff success is the point. You scream playoff success is the only thing that matters then point to regular-season success as an indicator of how good Tampa players are for their price when it fits your narrative.. interesting
I didn’t scream anything? And I never said “only thing that matters” ... did you even read what I wrote?

I don’t have a narrative, I have an opinion. This is my opinion on the allocation of cap dollars vs the teams they’re competing with.

What is funny is that I think that some Leaf fans would rather lose in the first round ice dancing rather than playing in the 3rd round with the Isles "boring" style.

Ya like when they missed out on Tavares even tho they offered more and they missed out on Panarin even tho they offered more. And they gave Anders Lee 7x7 who just tore his ACL and is damaged goods.

habe the Islanders ever given a good contract? Serious Q

They’ve made it to the final 4 the last couple of years.

I don’t think it really matters if they have or not.

How did Tampa justify losing to the 16thish team in Columbus? Thumbs up

Why do you keep invoking what other teams did or didn't do? I don't give a rat's ass that Tampa lost to Columbus, or if Colorado lost to the Knights, or any other team's results.

The Leafs choked in the Playoffs........again. I am completely aware that others teams have choked before and will choke again, but I don't care.

What I do care about is that since Dubas has been handed the keys, choking has been the rule rather than exception and if he can't make it stop, I want them to replace him with someone that can.

He also got paid $5M for three years. It might not be a fail for him but it was for the Blues.

Its definitely not a fail if a signing helps bring you a cup home, sure the last 2 years he was a waste of cap space, but I'd take that any day if it meant winning a cup.

Who knew that when Babs said we should expect pain, he meant once we handed the keys to the stick boy ?

I agree.
Pretty sure the leafs could pick up Blake Coleman for cheaper than 5. Great swiss army knife player.
why would he leave the tax haven of Florida? Don't these teams have a unfair advantage in signing players?

If Toffoli took 4.25 over 4 years and he’s much better than Hyman, Dubas should be fired if he offers anything above 4 without a salary cap increase.
