Why in the hell are we talking about the US Constitution in here? What did I miss?

Also someone wanna get me up to speed on the last week I've kinda missed a bit being busy every night.

Then maybe the proper term is Constitutional Democratic Republic
I'll settle for Constitutional Federal Democratic Republic

I chalk it up to boredom.

We beat last year's Stanley Cup winner. I think we hang a banner tomorrow for that?

It's really not. People don't really vote for the President (each State send electors). People don't vote for the Judicial Branch (appointed by the President and approved by the Senate). People didn't vote for the Senate (appointed by the State's legislature). The only thing people (landed, white, males at that) voted for was the House (the shortest term and largest body). Even the within the Senate it isn't truly democratic (majority vote wins) due to their own rules (filibuster).

Amendments to the Constitution made it so more than landed white males can vote and the Senate is now a State wide popular vote.

The House could actually currently have ~11,000 members if they had kept true to the 30,000 person minimum per Representative originally stated in Article 1 Section 2.

We also have provisions to enact law based on referendum in nearly all states which further skews the definition of what our government is.

Interesting, log on to a bunch of new posts in the thread thinking there was something cool going on...but, nope, political science discussions. Way to go guys.

Get people hopes up and then hit them with ol' the bait and switch. So we're doing politics correctly then?

Really, it's just a dead spot in the season for games. They've only played 4 games this month.

Matt Boldy is playing the best hockey of his career right now, has legitimately been a threat just about every shift in the past 3 games.

Really interesting discussion, but why not post stuff like that in the off topic thread?

I actually don't mind at all, just figured I'd try some humor this morning =)

We didn't get 2 points, at home, against a team worse than us. You should be tickled.
No , I’m not tickled ….they killed the tank and we are close to a playoff spot. Might as well make it in. But in true MN fashion they will do the only thing worse than making it in and getting swept. They will miss by one point and pick 15th

2 points out of a wildcard spot with 3 games against the Blues in the next month.

Feels like Guerin is going to use that $$ from Spurgeon’s injury to grab an expiring. Could use a middle 6 scoring forward or another defender - any intriguing options out there?

Lambos , Gudreau and this years 1st for Fiala!!!

Looks like a lot of the interesting expirings are already on good or borderline teams. Seems unlikely that Tampa would move Stamkos for anything other than a ransom.

I like it for this year. Let me do the math for next.

Fiala cap hit: $7,875,000

Wild's Expiring Contracts:
Duhaime $1,000,000
Dewar 800,000
Lucchini 775,000
Shaw 775,000
Goligoski 2,000,000
Bogosian 850,000
Chisholm 775,000
Mermis 775,000
Maroon 800,000
Fleury 3,500,000
Total: $12,025,000

Ok, housekeeping done. The Wild will need to re-sign or replace Duhaime, Dewar, two of Lucchini/Shaw/Maroon, 2 of Bogosian/Mermis/Chisholm, and Fleury. The average cost of those contracts is $1,202,500. If we remove Fleury as a special case, the average cost of the is $947,722 per skater. If we assume that level of pay for next year's skaters on average, plus some inflation (3%), they'll cost $975,638 on average, for a total of $4,850,274 to sign enough skaters to fill out the roster.
Just to be clear, that's 6 out of 18 players being at or near league minimum, before considering that Merrill is still on the roster getting regular minutes in this scenario.

In goal, the Wild should save some money by having Wallstedt platoon with Gus, or signing a cheap backup. That should represent about $2,500,000 in savings. I estimate this to cost $1,000,000. I have to estimate here, because I'm not certain Wallstedt will be the guy they pick to play backup, but his pay is very near $1 million anyway.

The cap is expected to go up 4.79% to $87.500,000. All combined, if the Wild made this move, they would have a cap hit next year of $87,382.195, if my assumptions are correct. That gives the wild $117,805 cap space.
Important note: This total includes 12 forwards, 6 defensemen, and 2 goalies. If they have any injuries, they'll need to LTIR or else they'll be over cap, as they have no extras on the roster. My assumptions were also fairly on the side of being able to make it work. I'm a little skeptical of them being able to sign that many players for only a 3% raise. I think it's doable if they're ok with icing mostly AHL vets again on the 4th line and 3rd pairing, but even then it'd be close, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it reach or exceed the 4.79% increase of the cap.

Finally, the thing I should have led with:
Fiala has a NMC. Do you think he'd waive it to come back to Minnesota?
