Minnesota Wild General Discussion - 2023-24

I mean dumba as a shell of himself is 100x the player Middleton is and we don’t even need to discuss Bogo , Merril or Goligoski.

I also think Dumba was good last year and very good in the playoffs and he is just struggling in Arizona ….there’s no way he’s actually cooked and I’d bet he’d love to be home

Every time 4 touched the puck it was a turnover. 33 and 4’s useless play led to both goals. Doesn’t excuse the lack of scoring. size of the Vancouver defence was just able to box out Wild mostly in the second and third.
He has been useless for years. Even at $1.2M, he legitimately might be Guerin’s worst signing.

That's 3.5 on the bottom pairing until he's 36, and he's a shell of his former self. We need less of those retirement contracts for guys who are simply good in the locker room.
3.5M on the bottom pairing could be nothing in 4-5 years to be fair. I’d be slightly okay with him back on a deal like that. I’d prefer going for a better & younger player though.

imagine how bad Dumba will be once his feet slow down. There is a whole league for of players, let’s not encourage Guerin or he’ll try to sign the entire 21-22 MN Wild to returement contracts. I’m already worried enough he’s going to move futures for some of “his guys” if the Pens start selling

If he was able to sign Fiala to a retirement contract I’d be ok with that.

I’m starting to think Dewar may have more upside than we are used to giving him credit for here. He’s been finding the right places and making smart plays and has a little more skill that I thought for sure.

I've always liked him. Average passer and stickhandler, but has an underrated shot, and is a vg skater. We could us a few more shoot first players on the team. Also a good two way player, and pretty tough for an undersized guy. He's not someone that you have to worry about protecting. He needs to work on his FO's, though. This team has a crying need for a good FO man.

With Guerin signing Hartman, Gaudreau, and foligno, it's certainly lessened his chances to shine on this team, though, and if he does, he'll have to go somewhere else to get paid.

Dewar should’ve been given an audition in the top 9 at some point IMO. the speed alone could be useful

Ouch, Brodin is out for extended time per Russo. That’s pretty much it for this season you have to think.

I think he and Gaudreau are similar, though Freddy had a later start to his career. It remains to be seen if Dewar has more upside.

I wonder if "significant time" is 2-3 weeks or if it's 2-3 months. You could easily argue 2-3 weeks would still be significant for Brodin/this team, but it ultimately wouldn't really end the season. If he's not back til March? Yeah it's gonna be tough sledding.

The article lists it as week-to-week. I'm not sure if they would list a 2-3 month injury as week-to-week. So might be good news or bad news depending on how you look at it :dunno:

Yeah I think Boldy was listed week to week wasn't he? And he missed 7 games. This isn't gonna derail the season, even if he misses 10-12.

I don't know about that, we might lose all 10-12 games if Merrill or Goligoski get top 4 minutes.

In some big trouble with Brodin down, there just is no replacing him at this point. Someone is going to be getting a big opportunity for ice time on the left, probably the Middleton-Spurgeon pairing takes over TOI lead in this stretch.

Apparently trade rumors have a team requesting the Flyers trade their bottom pair of Walker and Seeler together, wonder if that was us as I could see both being reasonable targets.

Matt Roy or possibly Jordan Spence from LA would be another target as they need to make room for Brandt Clarke long term, but cost to acquire would be difficult. Outside of Gaudreau waiving after just extending, I don't see much they would be interested in from us with the kind of immediate value they would need.

Broberg or Bouchard are more possibilities, Broberg would probably be begging his agent to come here now with the opportunity we have available and all of our other swedes.

I mean, we could give one of our LD in Iowa a chance... Hunt or O'Rourke, specifically.

Nah, gotta play the washed up vets with no upside, because they are signed to more expensive deals... can't upset the locker room.... or something like that.

If we keep losing Guerin is going to have to make a move, and it sure as hell better not be one of the young players or prospects.

Apparently Avs fans think there's some rumor that they're "in on" Eriksson Ek. Anyone seen anything like that? I can't imagine where that rumor would start, but I'd like to know so I can file that source away in the "do not give credence to" section of my brain

E: Never mind, just found it, the source is already firmly tucked away in that section of my brain

Who is the silly source?

Yeah, the Wild are gonna trade their true captain right now....let alone to a divisional rival.
