Confirmed with Link: JT Miller traded to NYR for Chytil, Mancini, 1st round pick (protected)

Took a quick gander on the Canucks thread for this trade and apparently the deal on the table a few weeks ago was this one but with Lindgren in place of Mancini according to EF.

I wish they did that one instead. I have a hard time believing that the Rangers got talked into Mancini as Vancouver lost all their leverage after Rantanen went to Carolina, they talked Vancouver off of Lindgren which is vomit.

Also massive shout out to @ThePeoplesPeople. When the Rangers scratched Sykora and Chmelar a few weeks ago everyone assumed that they were involved in this deal and he said that their scratching had nothing to do with this.

He was right... again.

For the rest of you wack ass wanna be insiders, this is how you get actual insider status.

I saw Frank Seravalli on a Canucks podcast reacting to the trade and he mentioned that the trade a couple weeks ago fell apart bc when Drury ran it up the flag pole, that Dolan said Vancouver needs to add to the deal.

I don't buy it.

Dolan is not assessing trade value lol. The dude probably heard JT Miller got traded here and asked why the Rangers traded for a player they already have.

Rebuilding with 31 year olds is always a great idea.I don't understand what Drury is thinking here.He should be clearing out a few older players, not adding to them.Iget that Miller is a great player and we didn't give up much...but we aren't a Miller away from contending for the Cup
Did you really expect anything but given how dumb management has been for decades?

E Friedman said the holdup before was Drury wanted Rutherford to retain on JT and he wouldnt.

If he had that deal wouldve been a no brainer, but the Rangers still won this deal on paper.

I think the key is the top 13 clause, but who else sees that backfiring in 26?

Cap projections made it so retention wasn’t necessary on the rangers end

I think we have one of the better rosters in the East. If Drury actually trades Lindgren we might actually win something this year.
Kreider and Lindgren are literally dead weight right now.

You could swap Berard for Kreider and have better output, even with CKs skills on the special teams. Hes floating around the rink without purpose.

Lindgren is actually more valuable considering his role, despite his ineffectiveness.

If Drury is smart he'll get some serious value for both of them. Kreider is shot but he is the type of player a GM loves and he has term so he can be "fixed" or healed. Everyone in the league wants a Lindgren and they are blinded by the tough playoff acquisition. Even the Nucks fans are saying they wished it was Lindgren instead of Mancini.

Drury did the right thing though. He will be worth more at the deadline if he plays his cards right.

What I was reading said the Hurricanes were also trying to get him but when they went out of the mix due to getting Rantenen from the Avs, then that gave the Rangers more leverage. So they were able to get a better deal.

He eats on the PP and we already have a ton of power play merchants. He stinks defensively so all he does is magnify the problems they already have

But he’s an asshole so he’ll be good for the “culture” allegedly
PP has been dogshit all year, I think bringing in a player who is good in the PP outside of the Rangers stale PP1 is actually a positive.

Now Lavi has to not be a dumb ass and put Miller on PP1.

Interested to see how Mika takes this. He was complaining about his ice time earlier in the season when it was Chytil eating into it, is he gonna be a huge baby now if Miller takes his place on PP1 and in the top 6? He could ask out if that's how it goes.

I just hope Lavi doesn't staple Miller to PP2 and 3rd line minutes.

From a value perspective it's a great deal. Honestly, really good deal.

We'll have to see what the next dominoes are to fall. I think we need to make several more moves to get to where we want to be and if we don't, this move will end up being a wash and potentially worse.

This feels like the kind of deal that appears to be big, but really isn’t.

That's a lot of self inflicted pain.

I’m older but I see what Drury is doing. It’s another move, along with Schneider, Cuylle, Borgan, Rempe, Trocheck .and even Edstrom designed to give the team more sandpaper. The Rangers have been too soft. One trade won’t change that but there’s an underlying theme here.
I'd put big money Zib is gone in the offseason

Lindgren will also be gone, maybe by the TDL

Agreed, but they have to get moving. Only 32 games left and 5 points out of WC2. Need to go on a heater, ideally 4-1 minimum in the 5 games before the 4 nations break. 2 vs Boston and 1 vs CBJ and 1 vs Pitt- three teams we're fighting for that spot with are basically must wins. Vegas is the other game this Sunday, second night of back to back which sucks.

Feel like the Rangers get into the playoffs

Yeah I mean, I don't know if Seravalli is right. More likely partly right and partly guessing. Here's the clip I saw it in:

wait did he say at around the 2 minute mark that Brannstrom and an unknown prospect was the thing that push the deal over the finish line? Lol. I would have preferred a 2030 4th round pick.

So Drury went back and said yeah the hold up was Erik freaking Brannstrom having to be in the deal

Great. Teams like Columbus/Ottawa now don't wanna lose. Columbus down 2-0 in the third now tied 2-2.
If we don't win tomorrow we pretty much have to play lights out hockey over the last 30 games just to make the damn playoffs.

30 games is a lot of games and not many teams have Igor. We paid him to play his best now. We just upgraded our 3C position with an all star caliber player

just because as a rangers fan my head goes to worst case.

there are potentially a couple guys miller could rub the wrong way here.. many saying they'd love if zib got bullied out of town.. what about Fox?

I want to build the team the right way and this ain’t it, but having resigned myself to this organization being what it is, I can’t say I hate the direction they are taking the culture.

I love Trocheck and his attitude. Bring in another guy like that and let that attitude infect the rest of the team. Weed out the weaklings.

Also, trades are just fun.

Gonna have to win around 65 percent of their remaining games (and that's if the teams around them go .500 or below). We shall see if Igor is elite enough to carry this team and win 7 out of every 10 games.

Trade is a no doubter. Love chytil but he's always a bump away from a career issue at this point. Mancini is redundant with the other rd depth. The pick is the biggest thing and it's a mid pick for a very good player that has some of the accountability demands that this group lacks

Wow just coming home and missed all of this.

Fine with it. Loved Chytil but the guy doesn’t stay healthy. Obviously serious chance that Miller outlasts Chytil as an NHLer despite the massive age difference.

Mancini looked great in the preseason, but looked abhorrent (career AHLer) during the regular season. He might still turn into a legitimate 4-6 D, but he’s already 22? 23? At his age I’m not scared that he will turn into some dominant top pairing D that will make this trade look bad for years to come.

Good trade and value for JT. Hoping he has a Sean Avery'esque effect on this team and they become a little more interesting to watch. I still hope to miss the playoffs and sell at the deadline, but he is a great player to retool with for the next few years.

Absolutely have to assume Vesey and Jones are likely next in line to go. After that, I can only hope and pray Drury makes the tough decisions needed to fumigate the stench of a rotten core.
